Mom has Dementia, she is 88,Im 55. Im wondering if there is any foods, drink, vitamens etc. that can prevent or slow the chances down of getting it? Ive read that one beer a day(although I really dont want to drink ) will slow the chances down by 50% of getting it. Is there any research on prevention? My husband and I both sometimes forget that we have said stuff and repeat it

Dementia and Alzeheimer's has too been in my mind wanting to learn about prevention. First of all, don't believe everything you hear. Our bodies were made to heal itself, we just need to give it what it needs to stay well. Most of our diseases come on through our sad american diet (SAD.)All that yummy junk food. Here is what I just read that would help with prevention. WATER! Would you believe it. Our brains are 75% water. You know most older people do not drink enough water. And we Americans have replaced drinking water with drinking tea, coffee, and soda. We should drink 1/2 our weight in water a day. Try it, it's hard. (120# - 60 oz. water) I've also read that most people are dehydrated all the time and MANY diseases stem from this. If you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. AND be sure to drink PURE water. If anyone out there is drinking tap water STOP. It is posion to you! Distilled water or Reverse Osmosis (RO) is the best. AND fats are also good for the brain. EPA and GLA especially. That's Omega 3 and 6. I personally take Omega 3 fish oil, cod liver oil, black currant seed oil, Lecithin (a fat emosifier) Celadrin (an oil for joint health) and coconut Oil (which is a medium chain triglyceride that is very good for the body, organic of course.) Hey, I'm serious. I don't want this disease. But will my husband listen to me, nada. Take care, Norma Jean |

Thank you so much for the reply. I am going to watch my cholesterol and exercise more! Thanks! Also, there is a really good book, I haven't read it yet but its called Preventing Alzeheimer's (i think that is the title), it is a book with red and blue on the front.

There is no known pill or herb that that will prevent Alz. The best bet is to eat well, keep your cholestral down (there maybe a connection between cholestral and AD), and do all those things that are meant to keep you healthy. Exercising the brain and creating as many nuero pathways can help slow down the show of symptoms.
