wondering if anyone has had any experience with a family member with frontal lobe dementia who has also been diagnosed with diabetes? my father was just admitted last night and it turns out that this poor, 51 year-old man in addition to the problems that the dementia is causing, now has a whole new slew of problems.
As far as the diabetes goes I know through experience that stress and aggitation seem to increase the blood sugar levels in a body,(they can be normal and then spike to 350-450 with aggitation!) you need to keep his environment peaceful start him on a healthy diet with meds this will eventually get him on the right track and hopefully in the end you wont need so much medication for the diabetes. You need to take everything white out of his diet at first, and by that I mean, flour, sugar, potatoes, rice, ect. Anything that starts with flour will turn into sugar, you will see symptoms at first of aggitation (dont worry this is withdrawl) feed him fresh fruits to compensate. I know there might be a little outcry about my reference to rice as some view it as a grain (been there done that) but Im refering to the processed white rice as it immediately turns to sugar in the body. As soon as the body fat on him gets within "normal limits" you can give him a treat every now and then.
