Hi! started caring for grandma in January in my home. She had been in an assisted living facility prior to this but they weren't able to provide enough supervision. Not sure what more to say in introduction at this time so will take some time to view other posts. Thanks for a place!

HI Bobcat! I actually have medical POA, My aunt, uncle, and mother have the rest as well as medical. My Aunt and Uncle handle all her finances. They all try to be involved in her care (to the best of their abilities)
Mom has a wannabe disabled husband (please don't ask me about that), Aunt and Uncle live a ways away but they were her main caregivers for many years while she was in the assisted living facility which was fairly close to their home. When it became obvious that the facility was unable to provide appropriate care levels for grandma, they finally agreed she should come live with me. The facility is located on a very busy main road and the residents are allowed to go for walks alone. Well, responsibility calls Im off again! |

Welcome eelirak, this is a beautiful but challanging journey you began in January. But then, you sound like you are familiar with challanges. I suspect you are familiar with dealing with doctors, too. Do you have her POA and DPOA? Is there a diagnosis for the cause of her dementia?
Looking forward to having you here. Bobcat. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Thank you to all for the welcome!!! Yesterday was really tough for me, she was soooooo angry, thinking I wasn't caring for her needs, holding her prisoner (even though she snuck out for a walk by herself) Found this site when I was looking for more resources and info on her dementia. Thank you so much for being here, I am sure I will have many questions, rants, thoughts as time goes on.
Seems like she is sundowning (my new term for the day)and tending to get more agitated in the afternoons. Today she tried twice to sneak out for a walk, the first time my 16 year old son went with her and I went the second time. She was starting to get upset about the door being locked and was sure it was being done to keep her in (it was, of course). She so wants to be independent and I am trying to find a balance between that and her safety. As for me, I am the mother of three boys, 18, 16, and 10. I am homeschooling my youngest who is a two time cancer survivor. Well, the vultures are starting to claim starvation so I must be off to make dinner. Thanks again for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know all of you!!! |

Welcome, eelirak!
Soooo, you started caregiving in January. Girl, you have done very well on your own! But, I am glad you found our place. Every caregiver needs someplace to go where everybody knows what you are going through. This is a great bunch and I, myself am grateful for all the help and support they have given me. |
