It is my goal to promote mandatory Dementia Care training in facilities like Assisted Living and Nursing Homes.
I've been in the business for 8 years and received very little training, that's why I'm here plus it's the reason I started my website on Caregiving help.

Does anyone have any ideas on HOW I can begin this quest? Who would I go to or write about this?

Thank you for any input you can give. Smile

I pretty sure that most laws relative to this are state, not federal. A good place to start would be your state house representative.

Or, you might touch base with the local branch of one of the organizations that advocate for dementia such as the Alzheimer's Association. They typically have the lobbiests etc. and in fact may already have something already in the works in your state that you could lend your support to.

There is the US Special Senate Commitee on Aging.

or take it to the White House:

I wonder if your area's Council on Aging would have any feedback to give you on this matter or your states Ombudsman perhaps?
Im not too sure on how to approach this but my guess is it will end up having to do with something at the Government level in order to enforce this type of training on all facilities nationwide.
