Here is a funny story that just happened to my elderly father and I last week at a family reunion...
I was bound and determined that my 83 year-old father would have a shower the day of our reunion so that he would feel clean and good about himself. So, I went to the room he was staying in at my sister's early last Saturday a.m. and off we went to the shower. When he undressed, I noticed that something smelled really awful and couldn't imagine that it was body odor because he had been showered 2 days before (I usually do not shower him). Before he got in, I found the source of the odor which was some loose skin that folds over his navel area...it was really red and stunk! I figured it was either yeast or fungus. After the shower, I asked my sis if she had any baby powder or corn starch...she gave me a tupperware container that was supposed to have corn starch in it. I figured that the best course of action was to keep the area really dry until hospice could look at it. So....I not only powdered his navel, but his feet and his rear-end area as well! While I was helping him dress, I still had the "corn starch" on my hands and a little had gotten on my arm. A funny thought crossed my mind and I said, "Daddy, wouldn't it be funny if this was really powdered sugar"? I instinctively licked my arm and....IT WAS POWDERED SUGAR! I cleaned it off of him the best I could and when he walked in to the kitchen, my 25 year-old nephew said, "What's up, sweet cheeks"? It was a good laugh that we all needed! Laurie |

OMG, I just think of other white powders it could have been and cringe. Thank goodness it was sugar.
