I am enjoying a great tomato sandwich of the local grown variety. Until recently they have been shipped in. This is a special moment.

Y'all are making me hungry! We didn't manage to get the veggie garden going this year but on years we do, Mortgage Buster, Orange Oxheart, and, of course, Brandywine tomatoes are always in there. :-)

paintedgardens, German Johnsons are sort of like a pink beefsteak type tomato. Lots of flavor. Very typical of Appalachia types.

MB, I will google creole types soon.

What specifically is the scientific name of those Creole tomatoes? Where would I get seeds for those for next summer? I am an avid gardener!

How are the heritage German Johnsons?
Let's hear about the yummiest, and share. Fun to share!

Down here, besides sweet, fragrant simply WONDERFUL home-grown Creole tomatoes, we have access to really good French bread. The kind that's like pastry when heated. Make a BLT on THAT (lightly toasted) just ONE TIME and you'll never believe how absolutely WONDERFUL a BLT can taste! Razz

BG, you need to grow some cilantro and serrano pepper with those tomatoes so that you can have fresh salsa all summer!

We have my son's English Sheepdog in our yard temporarily while he and his wife are in the middle of a relocation so didn't bother putting in any veggies this year. My herbs came in well, though. Except for some reason the dogs have eaten ALL my mint! Oh well, at least their breath is fresh ...

LOL, they have been 'shipped in' for a while. This is one of the first "backyard" variety. This one is a heritage German Johnson.
