Time for us southern gals to check our hurricane supplies.

I try to keep mine stocked up starting June 1st. But I had a lot going on then.

I know I still have a lot of stuff from last year, since we didn't have any hit this area.

I still have lamp oil, and plenty of charcoal, and I know how to make coffee without lights, so I'll be fine!!

Batteries for a lot of stuff still in the frig. A lot of batteries for small stuff (AA and AAA), I started using re-chargable ones and recharge them with my camera battery charger. It charges both AA and AAA.

We had one just pop up out of nowhere and hit FL this past week. It was a named storm, but just a tropical depression, and not a full blown hurricane. Only thing here, was a small breeze which I appreciated!

I need to check and make sure I have tracking maps too. I get them out of the phone book, scan them and print them out.

Anyone want to add to my small list here, go for it. I'm sure there is a lot of stuff I've forgot.

Christmas 98? Wow, sounds like it wasn't a good day to cook Christmas dinner with no power!

Yes there are a lot of things to do differently when we have elders living with us. Glad you put a link to that thread. Its a good read, for sure.

Thanks, Bren. There is an on going thread about being prepared for emergencies and evacuations, PARTICULARLY with an elder.

'tis the season for the update of plans.

There are many suggestions in this thread.

Thanks again to remind me to bump this up. I started "storm drill" 2 weeks ago (on a well so have to stock up fresh water) . Isabelle left us without power for 6 days wide spread. Previously power outages might be that long but are usually more localized. The ice storm of Christmas '98 was a major one ,also.
