And yea, we've tried Mucinex. She started back coughing up stuff over the weekend. I called Lulu, her hh nurse Monday. She was out here at 7am Tuesday.
Said she heard something going on in the same left lobe (suppose thats somewhere in the lung). Said she might have to put Mom on 2 days a week. We've tried so much stuff for allergies and mucus, its not even funny. I'm beginning to think we're opening a pharmacy. Some of it, I can take too, but the majority of it has DM behind the name, and with Bipolar Disorder, I can't take that stuff. Not unless I want to be up for 3 days straight. So the battle looks constant. Meantime, Mom don't want to go outside at all. She feels her allergens are outside. I still think something inside. She quit smoking at the age of 92. I only smoke in one spot in the house now, and there is a double fan in that window sucking the air straight outside. I quit the all over the house smoking the day she moved in. Really don't know what to do next. We have a boxspring cover, mattress cover, pillow covers, I've taken care of any mold in the house with some spray especially for that. Got different vaccuum bags. Kicked a few plants outside that "might" contain mold in the soil. Someone comes to dust the house now (Mom has 94 years worth of nick nacks in one bedroom). We don't have carpet in anywhere but the guest room, I've washed all the curtains, and took all the blinds out back, and scrubbed all of them, and put a small filter like thing in her vent in her bedroom. Lord knows what else I did too. |

Sorry baby we have been so busy this week I havent been able to ask nothin of no one but I havent forgot you or mom this week should be a little calmer *I hope*
Since your going to her PCP you should ask for a nebulizer if you dont have one *I thought you did* their real easy to operate, its no big deal so definitely ask for one ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

Mae you make that test sound so simple!
Bunny's girl, Mom doesn't have a neublizer. And if your talking about Mucinex, we tried that and it made her really dizzy, and unable to get out of bed. So we took her off it. Mom stays in her recliner most of the day. She is able to walk with a 4 wheeled walker. We haven't had to use the heat here in south Alabama since sometime in March. Its been 90 degrees this week. So ac has been on since March. We go to her doc Tuesday. I'm hoping he'll give her some prednazone to build her lungs up. |

My husband had an ongoing problem with mucous. It was always clear in color. He was alergic to things with any kind of smell. Then there were times when he produced none at all.
The spring with the pollen then the winter with dry heat. I hated to keep his windows closed but it was the best thing for him.In the winter I kept his room compfortable but far from hot.Covers served him better then high heat. Unless they can be checked for allergies it is hard to say.The test I had was so simple. They put a patch on my back.I wore it for 24 hours then went back to the doctor. There is also 2 types of muscinex. One is better then the other. |

Im havin a brain fart right now there is a med that we do give to patients Ill give a shout out tomorrow when Im at the office and ask them the only problem with it is many times *about 90%* of the cases its prescribed doesnt do them any good.
Because shes an ex smoker shes is going to have this issue no matter what you do. The only thing I can tell you is to keep her hydrated (luke warm water is the best as it absorbs better) when she sounds worse give her an Albuterol treatment with her nebulizer to see if that loosens it up and keep her head at 30 degrees (elevated) during the evening hours try getting her to sit up during the day, if she can ambulate well enough get her up and moving around if you have to use the heater keep the air moist by using a humidifier as keeping the home warm dehydrates a person quickly adding to the mucous problem by getting it thicker in consistency. ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

No, I haven't had the duct work checked. But I hear when they clean it out, it makes a worse problem in the house.
I did put a filter in her incoming duct in her bedroom. That certainly should have helped. I don't have to worry about under the house anyway, house is on a cement slab. Waiting on her doc, or hh nurse to say specialist. One sound of that, and we'll be off! |

I didnt know she was a smoker, no wonder. This is what happens with ex smokers bnot she probably has lung issues from all those years smoking and unfortunately theres not much you can do for that. You are going to continue to have these problems....makes you wonder why we all still smoke when we see the damage it can do huh Meanwhile Im still smoking in the garage even though MIL is no longer here with us ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

When mom moved in here, smoking went outside. After getting used to it, I wouldn't go back! When the weather is cold or mosquitoey, it's amazing how I didn't want that smoke as badly as I thought! Have you had the central air/heat ductwork checked/cleaned for mold? Another source for mold is under the house where there may be a leak... Let's face it - if one lives in the gulf south, there is GONNA be mold... it's hard to get rid of... Has your mom been to an allergist or pulmonologist? Sometimes it can be worth its weight in gold to go to a specialist. I have seen GPs totally bungle an allergic patient's care, where an allergist can straighten things out pronto... I don't like the sound of that "lobe" thing... perhaps a doctor should have a listen, preferably one who specializes in lungs and allergies... I am very allergic to many different molds. During a rainy period, I have little problem - my problem happens after the rain has dried up, and the mold begins to spore... Dusty, windy days following rain are the PITS for me! I have to trot out the complete regime of care - antihistimines, decongestents, mucinex, nebulizer, etc. Someone recently mentioned some kinda of wholistic thing to me... a neti pot. My BFFL swears by this thing... perhaps worth a try... "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." |
