I have a niece who is interested in being a caregiver. How does she find positions if she doesn't want to go through an agency?
Thank you. Donald |

OK, this might be worth a shot. Go on the web to www.schmiedingcenter.org
they are a wonderful organization in my area, and I was able to take "Caregiving 101", which greatly eased my apprehensions about caring for Don in our home. They offer advanced courses at a cost, but then they keep a list of caregivers at all levels of experience, and will give anyone who calls a list of those names. THEY (caregivers) ARE IN BUSINESS FOR THEMSELVES, this is NOT an agency. There may be something like this in your area. Best of luck to your niece - and you are so lucky to have her in your family! |

Bless her! The world needs more like her.
One way she could gain experience and see what might be required of her is to contact churches in the area, or her Aging Agency, and see if they have an "Elder Pals" program. Those programs may well be volunteer, but she would be around many different elderly persons and problems. I'll be back in a minute; I have to go check something before I put it here. |

She can advertise her services in the classifieds in the newspaper. She should be aware that being a professional caregiver has legal responsibilities that go along with it, so she needs to be sure she is bondable, etc. Best of luck to her.

donald_s, please tell your niece that we will be glad to discuss the qualifications of a CG as we see it, with her.
Bless her heart for wanting to care for the elderly and bless yours for trying to help her. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |
