I was shocked when Mom told me this morning, she wanted to go out front and sit in the swing. I helped her out there, and she stayed out front almost an hour!

Yea, 94 and she wanted to go out! Something she never did in Tx from 02 to 07!

She really enjoyed sitting in the swing I had hanging from the old cedar tree. Several neighbors stopped to talk to her.

Right after her afternoon nap, then she wanted to go out back. I'd been working in the back yard. My home is on a cement slab so getting her outside is easy, especially since I built the handi-cap ramp for the front door.

She stayed out back almost 2 hours! Its been a nice 80 degree day here.

We finally got a few squirrels come eat the seeds we put out front. I think Mom even got my 2 dogs to quit barking at them too. She said the squirrel was flicking its tail up at the dogs, knowing now, dogs can't get out the door to them.

Late in the day, the sun hits my car, and she usually wants me to close the front door. This time, I just moved my car, as she looks so happy sitting there looking out the glass storm door.

I knew in Tx, sitting inside all the time had to be depressing. I've seen Mom smile more this past week, than I seen her smile since she left for Tx!

Seems my "working on her view to the outside world" is doing her a lot of good. And getting outside, is good for her too.

Bobcat thats a funny story! And good for you getting the duck and geese to the car for your Mom. I bet she loved that! Hey, whatever works, right?

We did get out and go for a ride today. I asked if she wanted to ride with me to snoop see if my sis got petunias yet. Her birthday is tomorrow.

We rode by the old homestead. Seen a lot of the bushes and trees she planted were still there. Huge pot, probably and old iron kettle, Mom used to keep flowers in, folks now using as a bbq grill, lol.

Went and rode by another house we rented for about a year while the home was being built. Drove down by Mobile Bay, and it was really choppy. Mom seen a lot of stuff she recognized on her own, while some of it I was telling her where we were. Her eyesight is a little shotty these days.

But I did get her out today!

Bobcat, thanks for the reminder about ducks. There is a park in Mobile, we used to go feed the ducks at when I was young. That might be something good to do since its been so windy, and pollen flying. Hopefully I won't need boots, lol.

Mom want's me to take her back to The Pond ( it is in a cemetary) to feed the geese and ducks on the next nice Mon. Not looking forward to it, Last time we went, the birds were off the water harassing some (ok, I'll say it) grave diggers preparing a plot for the next funeral.

I had to go lead them back to the car and the pond with a trail of bread crumbs. No way I am disappointing my Mom. The geese and ducks are very bold and it is a darned good thing I am not easily intimidated. The cemetary staff cheered as I led the beggers back to Mom.

Fortunately the car and the car door did set them back a bit. They didn't get too close to her, just close enough to grab what she tossed out. Next time, I will wear my barn boots. I needed some neosporin for the abrasions on my heels, where I got nipped. Never again in sandels.

She used to take me there to feed the ducks when I was very young. It really is a special thing for us to do. Believe me , I am a match for this gang of feathers, but they caught me completely off guard. I know, it's that younger generation.

As soon as I oil up my boots and the next nice Monday, we are going. Maybe on a Friday after her hair appointment. (That reminds me, this coming Friday is my 185th consequetive weekly hair appointment for Mom. Good reason to get flogged by ducks and bit by geese at the cemetary if it's a nice day.

Absolutely, get them out when you can.

I tried to get her to "lets go for a ride" and see all the azaleas in full bloom, but she wasn't interested in going. Oh well, I gave it my best shot.

Oh my, and I'll bet Bellingrath Gardens are wonderful right about now... Maybe you can talk her into it soon! Smile

I know it does her a world of good, getting outside. Today though its pretty windy, and pollen is flying. With her trying to get another sinus infection already, we opped to stay inside today, and just look out the glass door.

We've had a few squirrels and a few birds out front eating. Another few birds taking a bath in the bird bath. I put 2 feeders out there, and threw some feed on the ground where she could see them too.

I tried to get her to "lets go for a ride" and see all the azaleas in full bloom, but she wasn't interested in going. Oh well, I gave it my best shot.

When weather permitedI would take all 3 of my family members out side.We would sit out front where they could see the people walking their dogs and kids. The birds were singing. The day was filled with the fresh smell of the grass and flowers. It was so uplifting for them.
I use to make lunch and we would eat it out side.

I recall my mother would always say , "I remember this place. She would ask me if I bought the house from her mother.I would tell her yes.Hubby was good then so I could go inside and start dinner while they were out side.
Those are the times you remeber most of all.
The things we were able to do to give them quality of life.
The times we were able to bring a mile to their face and a sense of being normal

Springtime and the free delights of it are renewing to everyone! It's a crime not to take advantage of getting up and out regularly!! Smile

Good for her! and good for you!

My mama LOVES sitting outside.

Even on colder days I bundle her up, put on a hat, give her a wooly throw and sit her in the sunshine.

Today was a gorgeous warm day here, she was in the shade and she enjoyed it. Her cheeks are nice and rosy.

I dread the heat and humidity we will get. She will not want to be out.
