My sister has just arrived from across state to take care of mom. I am FREE!!! I don't have to worry about getting someone to watch her while I run to town or staying at her house at night and not sleep in my own bed or lift or tug at her while I try to make her more comfortable. She should be in good hands with sis...she used to work in a nursing home as director of nurses and was also in home health care for a long time so I can feel at ease with her being there. '
Now what do I do with myself?? Think I will go take a long hot shower and a nice long nap!! or maybe I will go mow the grass. Nice to be able to go do what you want!! smile Gabgan

May, Now I see that you understand what I am always saying. We don't actually own anything, we are just its custodian as we pass through this life.

Being in the flea market and antique business for years, I have seen this over and over. At least the woman and man weren't there watching their things go. That is what kills you, when the kids have the old folks there watching their lives sold piece by piece.

On the subject of books, I have bought boxes of junk and get home and it would have a family bible with births and deaths listed inside. How people can let things that are so important as that just be sold to strangers is a mystery to me.

Sorry, this subject always strikes a nerve with me. Love to all. M

Janie, It just bothered me to know this lady was in a care facility and so much of who she was, was here .Each piece of clothing was representative of her good taste and her love for color. It is true, non of these beautiful things are important to her , now.But they were a part of a bigger picture.I just cannot forget how I felt while looking at the many , many items.Once a vivascious person and now she has been stricken with AD.It just grabbd me and will not let go.

I am calling it a night.Mother hasbeen holering t go home all last night , non stop until she just went to bed and seems to be sleeping.Everything from agrand conspiracy, to hallucinations and highly agitated because she wanted to go home.Sweet dreams to all of you.

May, you are SUCH a sensitive soul. There you are at a yard sale, buying all these beautiful clothes and jewelry ...... and YOU are feeling remorse for the man and his wife. You are a gem, my friend. Thank you for posting your feelings!

May Wow! Your adventure at the yard sale is so true. So many material things end up meaning nothing. Mom has so many brand new clothes that she bought hoping to wear with matching shoes, purse and jewelry. Now the stuff sits. I wish we could benefit somebody else with such prices! Maybe give it aslvation army.....

Gabgan If you should get bored and need something to do, I have a project........ Enjoy your down time. You have definitely earned it.

Must go to visit Mom, then too work. Then my night away...... we can't afford the sleazy motel. But there is a nice bottle of wine in the fridge and a do not disturb sign ready for the door! I am crossing my fingers that this post wil go through!!! wink

First I seethe board is acting up again, that is why I am posting here.My husband and I went to a garage sale this morning.Right down the road from me.I bout my mother some really nice slacks and capri pants for 50cents.All top notch brands.Bought my self 7 pair of shorts for 50 cents a pair. All brand new.Got my daughter a lamp for a dollar, cd and computer tape holde for 100, saw it at the store for 20 dollars. Also some beautiful jewelry. Was talking to the lady and she told me this sale was because the mother , owner of the house, had early AD and had been placed in a facility in Oregon. They sold the home and the husband was moving to be near her.I believe the daughter lives there. She went on to tell me that she takes no medicine for AD becase nothing worked.I looked at the beautiful clothes and accessories and you new these people had traveled.I did see things that said Bermuda, Hawaii, The islands.Clothes that had a very social flair to them but with great taste.I was going through the jewelry and remarked how sad this all was.All this things that represented things of a better time for her were of no use to her .Each piece of jewelry went with an out fit.All the years of buying and working are unimportant for her.The things that represented a certain status she held .But that status could not prevent her from getting AD.So much of his and hers laying there to be sold .I wonder if we knew what was to be if we would have felt these material things were that important.I wanted to go through some of the old books to see if a part of her was left in a book in some way.I just felt so sad seeing what was and what is now for her.The one compfort is that she and hubby did live a good life , together.
