I got PM'd the other day, and it just occurred to me that I should update. Well, that and seeing that Paul just did the same thing Wink

First off, I haven't been around much because up until this week I had a very difficult few weeks at work. I got a promotion (!), and, of course, once you get one you're put into a position where you have to "prove your worth". I'm talking 50+ hour weeks -- not that I'm complaining about the paychecks! But I've also realized that I'm not the spry young Em I thought I was Eek

Mom. Now then. She's holding her own at the moment. She was bed-bound for a few days because of pressure sores which have now healed. The nurses have a special pad on Mom's wheelchair that evenly distributes her weight. They're very good about repositioning her every couple of hours.

She's eating a lot better too. I had the NH take her off the megace a month or so ago because I was afraid of the side effects. Turned out that Mom had a precursor to an ulcer. She now is on meds for it. And she still loves her ice cream!

Her speech, though, is becoming more garbled. She also can't translate what you're saying a good half of the time, so conversations are more like a let's-piece-together-X-stories-at-once than anything else. Oh, and I'm still either a "very nice man" or a schoolgirl friend. She's been calling me "Mama" a lot lately. I didn't realize the significance until I found a picture of my grandma taken when she was around my age. I'm a dead ringer for her. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that.

Sometimes she does remember who I am. She doesn't seem to recognize my name, but she'll call me "baby" or "my little one" when I'm not masquerading as Grandma.

Hubby tries visiting her every day, sometimes twice a day if his schedule permits it. He's thrilled that she still remembers his name.

So...how's everybody doing?

Thanks! I'm sometimes still on tenterhooks whenever something happens to Mom, but that's natural, I think. At least I know there are people who know how to help her better than I ever could.

Oh, what a darling pic! She doesn't fully understand why I'm around this week. She's so used to me leaving in the wee early hours that she's all confused. All she knows is that I'm available to take her for a W-A-L-K any time Wink

Congrats on the promotion, you have worked long and hard there. Let's see a picture of a cake sometime.

I treated myself to a digital camera earlier this week! I'm still trying to figure it out. Trust me, I'll probably be posting so many pics once I conquer the learning curve that y'all probably be sick of me at some point Big Grin

Glad your Mom is doing so well. Several people have had lessens to bring to the able for us lately, sometimes Mom's can be better cared for by others. Without the help my Mom has, I could not do this.

Exactly. In hindsight I probably could've placed her earlier than I did, but in a way I'm glad I didn't because we would'nt have had that time together. Hubby misses her horribly, but now he realizes the wisdom of her being cared for better than what we could've done at this point.

Stop and smell the roses...oh, BG, I'm trying. I really am. I've been on vacation this week. All I've done is sleep Smile

And thanks re the promotion! It was a long time coming. I basically have had the position for the past year, but the Powers That Be couldn't officially promote me until they found out that the girl who originally had the position wouldn't be returning.

And I know you're hanging in there!
