Been down this road before, many times but this time there's this impending dread. Dad is being sent home through hospice this morning and it's been determined that he's reached his plateau and lost ability to assist with transferring. I have no idea what to expect except, that as hard as it's already been, it's only going to get harder. This changes everything now and how exactly, I'm not sure yet. I know that he won't be able to get out of bed with full assistance unless he's strapped in to the Hoyer lift. And fearing and dreading accidents in bed is what I'm having a very difficult time with.
Thanks to Humana (NOT!!) where they are notorious for allowing snf for rehabilitation care to be reputably as short a duration than through other carriers, they discharged his care and are sending him home way too early, I believe. Just 2 weeks ago, therapy told me he was showing signs of improvement and progressing. That information was interpreted by the doctor as "reaching his full potential"????? Now they've claimed that my father has been uncooperative with transfers, that he doesn't try, that when they sit him up, he'll fall back without trying to support himself so, they're throwing him away and denying him further rehabilitation. If he was covered by another carrier, he would have probably been allowed a few more months stay at the facility...this was told to me by the staff at the facility and how notorious Humana discarded care for those that are completely broken. Anyone reading this that is covered by Humana or who have loved ones covered by Humana, you may want to heed warning here and reconsider your options! |
