how do i know if my mother should be bedridden..she needs 2 people to get her in the shower..and sometimes 2 people for the commode.
elder services has told me they have a shortage of HHA..so i have PC worker..who really doesnt help much..i do believe shes end stage alzheimers..she doesnt know who i am or carry much of a convo..but i really want to keep her at home..she still eats everything i give her..although i have been feeding her the past 2 yrs..except finger type food.. btw she is 93..please would like some info..as these agencies are driving me nuts..with nursing homes instead of home care.. ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." FR, as Momof? pointed out, bedridden (and by that I assume you mean never being gotten out of bed?) is the LAST thing you want for anyone. Lungs are only ONE of the myriad of problems that happen to a body when it is bedridden. Bedsores, bowel troubles, balance problems, circulatory problems, digestive & intestinal troubles, foot fungus - you name it! Human beings are simply not made for laying around! It sounds like it's time to take her to her doc for an evaluation. If she is truly end stage, perhaps the doc could order hospice to help you. The Hoyer is a godsend. Good luck! Hope you can get some assistance soon! BTW, the color scheme in here is annoying when posting - there is nothing you can do to change it... has to be changed by the admin. After the message posts, you see why the script is light-colored - it's on a dark background. "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." Mom got her wings 11/18/2008 |

as a nurse I have to say I don't think anyone should be bed ridden it causes too many lung problems but as a home care provider I do know just how hard it is to get some people up. Have you looked into a lift. Most insurance and even medicare will pay for a hoyer lift if a doctor orders it. A Hoyer is machine that will do the lifting for you. There is a sling you place under the patient then connect the corners to the lift. Push a button and the person is lifted and you can move them over their wc adn anotherpush of a button lowers them slowly into a chair. They even have a mesh sling for use in the shower, Sorry if this is hard to read don't know why it is printing yellow but I can't seem to change it
