What would YOU consider to be the perfect Christmas gift for an elderly lady with extensive (and expensive) bridgework, diabetes, chewing difficulties incident to Parkinson's and swallowing problem because of a recent stroke?

The idiots gave her a big box of chocolate covered CARAMEL pecan candies! She broke a front tooth off biting into the first one, and that's the tooth to which her bridgework was attached, so net loss is five teeth. I don't even want to think about what it's going to cost to fix that. Her bridgework was part of about $20K worth of work she just had done about five years ago.

Morons. They just left the box sitting by her bedside. I have done everything I can to get through to them that she is unable to self-moderate on sweets, that high blood sugars reduce her cognitive function and make her more likely to have additional strokes. What do I need to do to get THROUGH to these people? It's rebellion against me, I believe. They don't want to be told what to do, and I think enjoy helping my MIL to be "naughty" behind our backs just as a way of getting back at us for not allowing her to write them cash checks any more.

I wish I could send them the stinking bill for her dental work.

Perhaps send them a "Care & Feeding Guide - Dos and Don't" (like the one WE didn't receive) with a picture of the candy box and a copy of the dental bill... perhaps THAT would make the light bulbs come on over their heads...

I do agree - I think it is just ignorance... sigh... after all, WE all find it pretty hard to imagine some of the stuff our loved ones do and say every day, so it must be very hard to understand for people who are not around our loved ones (or folks like them) very often...

Same family members we've been having problems with going back years. I honestly don't believe it's maliciousness, really. It's pure, flat out STUPIDITY. Lord help any children they happen to spawn.

It's one thing to be in denial about her failing health. It's another entirely to allow that denial to result in doing things that harm her. But we're being "mean" and "controlling" when we suggest that they use some common sense.

Can I cuss em out for that one?! UGH! WHO did this? Dam right Ide send them the bill for that one! Dental work aint cheap thats for sure.
