my mother has been sick with asthma since ny's
the dr has had her on predinsone 3 times since..now shes wheezing again..no predinsone..just the nebulizer every 4 hours..even overnite..like i dont need to sleep too.he had the vivsting nurses come..she doesnt hear a wheeze..wonderful..she calls the dr..and thats it..the neb every 4 hours .she told me i shouldnt have her laying down..i didnt..i had her in for her nap..but elevated..every time she comes..she comes during nap time..i keep my mother on a schedule for her alzheimers. i am at my wits end..so i guess i will shoot myself when i turn 70..no sense living in this country when the eladerly are treated like dogs. dont know what else to do..but wait til she cant breathe..an is in a full blown attack..and call the ambulance..oh but then its the hospital..they dont care either..went thru this 4 yrs ago when she was like this..so what do we do/ ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." my neighbors..it still smells..i want to choke them..my head is spinning..thank god my mother is in the hospital..had to call an ambulance last nite..she was so out of breath getting into bed..she told me i dont want to die..
so she went in about 8..at 10 they said i could take her home..what??? i told them no way..shes wheezing more then she did when i brought her in..you gave her no treatments..only a chest xray..that doesnt do it for me sorry!! well needless to say all the interns and pa's stayed away from me..lol but 2 very nice dr's..from other countries..were very understanding..and kept her..now the covering dr..called and would like to do another nite to be sure..that will give me enough time to air this house out..and call my landlord on my neighbors i have sinus probs..everything from perfume to wd-40 kills me..i get severe migraines..but i think the gas smell last week..really triggered my mother off.. anyway i am home for a short time..just went up to feed her lunch and now i will go for supper..and bedtimealso have to call the agencies to cancell the aide for her bathtime. i will keep you posted..unless i get back too late ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." Even when I used to be a smoker, WD 40 and gun cleaner would run me out of the house. A sensitive person would be dead.

bobcat..i have told the nurse over and over again..but she still insists coming at the time of her nap;;i am not changing her times..as it confuses her more..
today she is wheezing..coughed most of the nite.its a congested cough..they wont listen when i ask for a chest exray..they say she sounds good..wtf..are they nuts..i can hear it..i might be getting old..but i know a wheeze when i hear one..and so do the aides that come for her bath..if she gets bad i will call an ambulance..i guess i will have to have hope that the hospital might care..although the other times they didnt ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." FR, I have been reading this, but all I know about asthma is thankfully second hand. I love it that your Mom remembers the cats name. Still the point of having her seen by an allergist if possible is well made. A friend whose son has asthma, says his attacks are almost always triggered by his allergies. She can't even hang the laundry out for concern of bringing in pollon or mold. These days with so many chemicals in everything, it is not unusual for an allergy to take hold in an adult.
I am sure you explained your Mom's shedule to the nurse. I am a bear about Mom's schedule, and not because of dementia. She is 93 and gets so tired that she is likely to fall or get sick if she misses one of her 4 naps a day(3 of them are in her recliner and are adjustable but the 2 hour one after lunch in bed is not negotiable unles it is for a rare visit from her granddaughter.. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Dam I forgot about that MB Good Job! HVAC system!
Have they tried cleaning them recently FR? Cause Uh Uh I thought when I got my new system in last year Id take um up on their offer to let them clean the venting out BIG MISTAKE....HUGE! I was dying in my own home for over a month. Once you mess with it and loosen up all that muck it reeks havoc on us. Take a used dryer sheet or stretchy nylon material and place it behind the vent screen if you have the ones on the wall or ceiling, that helps. Theres one thought. Plants no unless they are strongly scented flowers, like for me Hyacinths. Kill me now! Stargazer lilies is another one but that isnt as bad Oh I know Tuber roses is another. MB is right, mold is the worst offender for us by far, if it is wet in your parts chances are thats at the root of this bad spell I lived in a very foggy area for almost 10 years (in fact locals called it "Fogtown") I lived on Albuterol there ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

Could it be the cleaning products? Scented candles or oils? Could it be mold in the HVAC system? "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." Mom got her wings 11/18/2008 |

Ahh since a nursie comes in ask if you can try a nebulizer on her instead if you havent already they are real easy to operate and she will breath it directly in.

she had a pulmonary dr for her primary..and he called it so called asthma..and told me to put her in a nursing home and let her go..so i got rid of him..this happened about 5 yrs ago..she was the same way..it lasted a year then stopped til now..they do have her down as COPD..
the nurse comes hwneever..they call and tell me the time..then come late anyway..my mother doesnt walk..so i put her in bed for a few hours in the afternoon..just to let her rest and relax..i do move her around..but its easier to change her in bed.. ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." FR, if your mom truly has asthma and never had it before in her life, I think an allergist or pulmonologist should take a peek at her.
I am wondering about congestive heart failure. Sometimes the symptoms can resemble pulmonary problems... Had a friend whose doc (my mom's EX-doc) misdiagnosed him with COPD, had him on nebulizers and inhalers... He had CHF instead... Lost a few years of valuable time as his heart deteriorated. By the time he got to folks who correctly diagnosed him, it was transplant time. Doesn't the nurse come at a specific time? If not, call the home health place and tell them that your mom is on a schedule and you need someone who will work by appointment. It is not helpful when folks just show up whenever... shes also congested..but the visiting nurse didnt hear anything..said her chest sounded clear..but when she coughs it sounds like someone who is choking on it
she does eat alot at supper..but her supper is 4 pm..and bed is 7pm..one thing she does know..when she cant breathe i hear her praying..its so sad.. ..."I wonder how much of our lives are spent worrying about things that really don't matter." Michael Landon |
