Long story but Mom's doctor quit after being hounded by one of my siblings. She was abducted from the nursing home and the court returned her to my care but I needed to find another safe place for her. I called West Minister Retirement Homes in Ponca City Oklahoma. Mom and I went to see if she like the place. We also visited a place called, Sterling House. West Minister told me that they had a doctor at the hospital and just check Mom into the emergency and he would see her. OH LORD what a mistake. It was the syke ward and I did not know it. In fact the doctor never saw my Mom.

I followed everyones advise all the way upstairs and then realized they did not have the staff to care for my Mom. They took Mom and changed her clothes and I told them I would stay the night because I knew she could fall out of bed but needed to go home and get clothes. They acted like this was ok but when I returned, the doors were locked and they said I could not come in.

The next day early I took two friends with me and they still would not release my Mom. In fact, Mom had been so drugged, she did not wake up. I told the nurse to call the doctor and I told him that Mom had Parkinson's and I checked the meds he was giving her and they could shut her receptors and that I wanted her released into my care immediately.

The hospital said NO and told me to leave. My friends went and bought a camera as my Mom walked into court the day before and a day later she was like dead.

I called the lady from Sterling House and she came over and said the hospital had a contract with West Minister Village and they give high doses of drugs so the patients will be controlable. She said she was there weekly with the same problem.

After she told me this, I went back upstairs and tried to wheel Mom out the door and was stopped by the Ponca City police. My friends went and bought a camera and I took pictures of Mom with the hospital police standing behind her. The hospital called DHS and not only they come but they also called their top dude from Enid. I told them I had called and they never responded and now they show up when the hospital calls. Whatever they did, it worked but not until midnight.

The hospital called at midnight and my two friends, both over 65 went to pick up my Mom. The hospital would not even help us get her downstairs. She was so stiff we thought she was dead.

The next day she still had not awaken and I called the fire department. When the boy came, he said he did get a pulse but she was so drugged. He wanted to know who did this and I told him the Ponca City Hospital.

My Mom died six weeks later. Oh and don't be fulled, this doctor was a Geriatrics doctor. Bull!! After this I found out it is a common practice and no one can do a thing as they say it is to make the patients controlable. Well this doctor had not even seen my Mom - he would not talk to me over the phone and the only drugs I told the hospital she could take were not the ones he gave her.

My Mom really died after this as I could never get her to come back. She even forgot how to eat and they called hospice in as they said she was better off not eating. I HATE THIS IHATE THIS I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such things happen to the old, and their families. It is murder, or at least negligent homicide. When I was a teenager, there was an orderly at the local hospital who was implicated in the deaths of many elderly. He said he was only doing as they asked. If he is still alive, he is still in jail.

This is criminal activity. To deny you access to your Mother, deny you pertainent information is wrong.

Whether you have the energy to persue this, only you can say. There is a chance that if al had been done right, your Mother's time had come. If you were POA, DPOA, guardian, or "merely" next of kin, this was wrong.

JT, what ahorrible experience for you and mom.I am not surprised.Especially hearing they drugged her to manage her.Their little secret .As for the doctor, this place is only a part time for him.One to give him pin money.I always ask my self , why is a good doctor in a care facility .
I would have demanded an autopsy right away.Because of the time of her death and the circumstances up toit.
This is just so sad to hear.NO ONE HAS ANY SHAME OR COMPASSION FOR OUR LOVED ONES.

This happens with many of the veterans .They are elderly and kept sedated.Something they do not advertise.
Do we hear any of our politicians , running for president, addressing any of these issues. No, they have their fingers in the wind and that decides what they focus on.
WE HAVE NO ONE TO REPRESENT THE PLIGHT OF THE AFFLICTED AND CAREGIVER.tHEY HAVE CHOSEN TO TURN A BLIND EYE.
What are the bi laws of this facility? How many infractions have they had.?But , no matter what, they have money, money buys lobbiest and they get special favors over the care of loved ones
Why are the religious leaders not addressing these issues. They are suppose to be the center of each community.Maybe it depends on how much you put into the collection box.
Their purpose is to be there for the community.I suggest they have fallen into thebig business ara

JT, This is the worse case I have learned of.Am I surprised, to the extent, yes , but my experience with facilities will never change.Too many keep the residence drugged to manage them.Less they have to deal with. Those doctors who are affiliated are usually using these places for their pocket money.I would have seen a lawyer and had an autopsy done. This is neglect to the gills.I cannot understand how they were able to prevent you from getting in to see and rescue her.I still would take their criminal hands to court.Under the circumstances you could have had an autopsy done because of the means of death.
I am so sorry you had to endure so much.If any thing it is a wake up call to what we can expect from too many facilities.

JT, this is deplorable, you have every right to be so upset over this. These people are idiots, they are in the business of keeping beds full, patients drugged until they go to sleep and never wake up, and filling the bed again, this must go on over and over and over.

I am so sorry you were so powerless in this. And that you lost your Mom due to this hospitals negligence, or was it??? Please forgive my anger towards this, I just can't imagine this being my Mom and how I would be feeling right now, if I had lost her.

Take care sweetie, please come back and update us!!!! Thinking about you!!!!!!
