My mother was diagnosed early in 2003; is anybody else caring for someone with this diagnosis? I have looked at other posts but not seen any mention of it.

Thank you for the welcome...I will take you up on the offer of hanging out here. Right now my schedule is so caught up with classes and taking care of my mom that it will be a relief to talk to others facing some of the same challenges.

Yes, I know that, in time, she will see the inevitable. It's just that I was counting on her strength; and it's not there. At least not now. Oh well...

Terrie... Please accept my belated welcome to our Forum family. As you've already seen, our members are at the ready and sent a great link too.
Although, until you mentioned it, I never even heard of this particular neuro-degenerative disorder and when I read of it... my heart seized. I am so sorry your mother and your family are facing this great loss. Please come back and visit with us, let us get to know you and share your journey with you. There are many who have walked this caregiving journey from beginning to end and I am sure you will find great comfort here. Warmest regards...Joan Marie "Courage is not the absence of fear. Rather, courage is the ability to confront fear." |

when one works with others with problems and know what the future holds for them It must be very difficult to bring it home to someone you love.In time she will see what is happening but she needs to get past the initial shock.

Thanks for the link. I've been gathering info for the past few weeks. I have a sister that is in denial about my mom's prognosis. It's odd because she's the one who works with elderly patients as an OT. I know that she sees lots of patients that live into their 90's but that is just not going to be the case with my Mom and she is finding it difficult to accept.
