hello everyone!

there's been many changes since i last posted.
had a little bit of trouble getting logged on
but it's ok now.

i've read some of the messages but some have been
deleted. how is everyone dealing with the holidays??

still wanting to move mom to a more homelike
nh. have apps in and she's on waiting lists.
the home knows i'm planning to move her as a
home i put an app into reqested that the med
info be faxed so i got a call from one of the
administrator asking was there any thing wrong??

Question:can there be retaliation or a lessing
of care because of this?? my understanding is
that's against the law.

i visit regularly and go to family councils.
last month, we had 2x as many family members
as before. they listen but are slow to correct. we can only keep trying. next week, there is a family meeting and a care conference. so once again, i air my concerns.

the biggest problems are lost clothing(drives me nuts!!) mom can still eat herself but needs
cueing on eating w/fork, spoons instead of her
fingers(i can tell what she ate because she's
wearing it) face not cleaned enough(however, mom
can get agitated and say get that out of my face!! )medications which make her drowsy/droopy
(have discussed this w/the doc who is adjusting
the meds and the indifference to the residents
at times(which i plan to address at family meeting)

are any of you feeling down about the holidays??
especially those who have LO's in nh or assisted
living??

also, mom's now incoherent and talking to herself
every now and then she comes back. since she's
taking 5 meds: aricept, risperdahl, celexa, tegretol(seizures) and ativan as needed for agression, i feel that all these meds have
contributed. yet, when she gets agitated, it's
really rough. at least she's no longer physical
anymore. or is just the progression of ad??
either way it's been difficult to see. so i've been down sometimes.i just ride through those
feelings (cry when i need to, talk about it
when i need to) and laugh(judge mathis and the "court"shows) to balance things out.

but, we press on........

are you all getting out to shop or see christmas
displays??

Hi Shelly,

The deleted messages may have been victim of pruning or not made it back from transfered files yet.

Your question about lessening of care can be answered by your local ombudsman--retalliation is not allowed.

I understand about the lost clothing--a pain indeed. And the wearing of food---not to make light of it but there are worse things--like not getting the food or eating it. Some meds take quite a while to show a reaction to changes in dosage.

The use of utensils is not always mandatory when it comes to either eating or not--finger foods are acceptable in this situation--whatever works.

The progression of AD can manifest itself in many ways---and is cause for being down--don't we all know that too well. I surely do.
It's very good that you recognize and do go for balance in your emotions.

Take care now.

Use today wisely,
It's the only one we get.

Oh, for so short a time,
we are on loan to each other.

Jim
