After a ROUGH three days in the hospital, we moved him to a SNF yesterday. He should be there for a week to ten days to finish the IV antibiotics.

In the hospital he was combative, foul-mouthed, uncooperative... just miserable to deal with. He was hallucinating much of the time. Kept getting naked and trying to crawl out of the room (they took his walker away because he threw it at people).

After all that, imagine my surprise today to find out that he loves the SNF. My daughter went out first thing this morning, and found him organizing wheel chair races with a bunch of people! Apparently he was so thrilled with physical therapy he asked if they could do it twice a day. Instead of hiding in his room, he's in the lounge watching Bonanza with his roommate. He introduces himself to every person he meets. He's even wearing his hearing aid so he can hear what they say.

This is SO not typical behavior for my Dad. I'm just hoping it continues, because if he enjoys the socialization I will get him into one of the senior daycare programs. Up until now he has had a screaming hissy fit at the idea of "sitting around with a bunch of old people". He's always been such an old grouch, I'm tickled with the idea of him making friends and having someone besides me to talk to.

Every day is a new experience.

Holy cow, BG, where'd you get my picture? Big Grin

That's pretty much exactly how I spent my day. Tomorrow night my honey and I are going on a date. Dinner, movie... wow, we haven't done that in a long long time.

I'm thrilled that Dad is enjoying his stay. I think it will make it easier on all of us to know that if/when the move needs to be permanent he will be OK with the place.

Hope y'all have a pleasantly uneventful weekend!

Jo
