Mom's doing pretty well at the moment. I have no major worries, in fact I am probably just borrowing trouble.
Friday(hair day), that grimlin possesed 14 year old car of hers (yep, the one she got when she was 80 that truly only has 45,000 miles on it) wouldn't let go of the keys when I put it in park. Some times when you start it the heat comes on and you can push every button it has, but no lights, no bells, no whistles, just heat on high blast. If you hit a pot hole the hazard flashers come on and won't go off until you hit another pot hole. 4 years ago when I needed a new car, I got one that I thought would be comfortable for her, but she hates to ride in it, can't quite get the seat right. Hmmmm... I try to humor her, it means a lot that she still has her own car, even though she cannot drive it (she can't get to it, much less in it, without assistance). So she is getting her shampoo, I run next door to the very nice but unknown mechanic who lets Mom pet his little dog. (He has no business going on, not a single car waiting) Great, he fixed it by the time she got under the dryer. I ask how much, he wants to know if $10 is too much cause he just cleaned out the housing and sprayed it with goo gone. Mom is just blessed, that is all. I gave him $20 told him to keep the change and I didn't want a receipt and he let me take hs little blond long haired rescue mini dach back to the shop to kiss Mom while her hair dried. Took the pup back,,,, and then the other hair lady says her customer needs 911. Mom's lady gets 911 on the phone, I am checking it out. The 76 year old lady is having a seizure. For years she has had the appointment after Mom's. She came around before the EMTs arrived and passed the "Stroke" test. Talked plain and clear. Swore nothing was wrong, refused to let the EMTs take her to be checked out. They are trying to tell her that she cannot drive, but she is saying I'll be just fine if you let me rest a minute. No medical person saw the seizure, so I guess it didn't really happen. Law says a seizure victim can't drive, but if a doctor doesn't see the event, it didn't really happen?? My job was to get Mom home and for us to be out of the way. I feel like I am taking a ride in the Yellow Submarine these days, and blue meanies are around every corner. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Be very afraid everyone, her son took away her car for 2 weeks while she had some tests done. They found no problems so she is now driving again, unrestricted.

Scary BC. At least she wasn't driving when the seizure happened.
poor soul just doesn't want to give up driving. May not have anyone to take her where all she needs to go. |

What a wild day you had there!!! I’m driving my mom’s 94 Nissan Sentra and it runs like a charm and it still is well under 100,000 miles. I can’t remember if your mom lives with you or not. If she doesn’t I guess it doesn’t hurt to let her keep the car if it makes her happy. If you have other caregivers for your mom, do they use her car to take her places? I have heard about that but have wondered about the insurance issues. When mom was well and working, we had two vehicles but I “gave” my little Nissan truck to my neighbor for her daughter to drive. The same neighbor who checks in on my mom when I’m at work. Well, sometime in early December, she asks me to come over. Which aside from special events she never does, so it kinda had me a bit worried. I thought maybe she was going to tell me they were moving and that I better start looking for somebody else to help my mom. Anyway, I go next door and she tells me that her daughter was in accident two days ago, an SUV t-boned her at the stop sign to our sub division. The girl was OK but the truck was a goner and she just wanted to let me know what had happened. She said she was sorry and I was like “hey, I’m just glad your daughter is OK.”. With times as there are, I’m thinking that maybe I should look at buying a new car, perhaps that little Toyota hatchback, it’s real cute and I hear it’s a buyers market now. Thing is, my mom would probably not want to give up her old car and I would not want to carry two insurance policies plus a car note, no matter how small. I’ll have to put my wily coyote suite on to get this pass my mom. Otherwise, her car will just sit out in the drive way. |
