Yes I did. Her 88 year old 'baby' sister's husband turned 90 and his daughters threw a party for him at the Progressive Living Community where they live. It is kind of swanky, there was going to be valet parking and I have never in my life been 'parked'. (Still haven't, they directed me to a spot near the front door, since Mom was going to use a wheel chair and I had researched tips and all for the occasion... so disappointed.)
Anyway, we had to be properly 'turned out' and I no longer have a clue what that means if I ever did. We only stayed 45-60 min. and it took that long each way to go. Still, I have no clue if she will ever see her only living sister again. She knew she was there, knew who she saw, but is still exhausted. I believe it was the right thing to do, but I also hope it was the right thing to do. (For those who don't know, Mom is now 94 and frail, but not ill.) * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Last year around Easter, my aunt and uncle brought my 99 year old grandmother 750 miles from Wisconsin to Arkansas for a visit. She was of course frail, but apparently healthy enough for a person her age.
A day and a half later, they took her home. We talked on the phone together quite often, but she passed away in August from (up until she fell that month and was taken to the ER to be checked out) liver cancer. She never complained, and never had any obvious symptoms, ate like a horse, etc. So I'm telling you now, if Mom wants to see them and they want to see her and everyone's up for the trip, just GO! |
