I think we all want our Mommy, to see us through this. In fact, if we open our hearts and minds, our Mommy, does see us through this. Don't ever doubt it.

I would like to thank you all for the kind words of encouragement. Your kind words alone helped me during this time. I think of her every single day and just wish I had more time. I'm 37 years old and I still want my mommy!!

mariabee, thank you for the words to the poem. If I can't have the video at least I have the words.

MonicaB, please accept my belated condolences on the death of your dear mom (coincidentally on my birthday last year). I know the holidays must have been rough on you without her...

We look back a lot here - in good times and especially when we are hurting. I'm so glad you asked us to help you find that sweet video for you 'cause it helps us, too. Please stop in again soon and let us know how YOU are doing these days. Sometimes, I think the road back after our loved ones pass is harder than the road we walked with them... {{{HUGS}}}

No credit to me, BC - someone sent it to me, too - I think BunnysGirl if memory serves... Wherever it came from, it was one of the most touching, beautiful statements I have seen from the point of view of an elder.

Looked back, MB posted it Jan 20, 07, in casual corner. Shoulda known where the credit was due.

Me too, Mae, So happy for them, So suddenly aware of how fragile is what I have right now,
A good cry is a good thing, releaves a lot of the stress. Never could with people bearing witness, some how, here it's all different. I can feel as if my tears are shared, but weakness is not witnessed. Odd, huh?

Bobcat, the video with music is so powerful.
Really brings truth to the words.
When I look at an elderly person I see so much. The wrinkles that represent smiles , tears and hard work. That hand so tender but unable to do what it once did, still able to hold ones hand. The things they once did so well become an effort, but one they earned
Every child who has spent time with their grandparents will , one day, realize how special they were. That special gleam in their eye when they see their kids and grand kids. The wonderful stories they love to share and will be remembered long after they are gone.
When I see an elder man and wife together I am in awe.I think how luckey they are to still have one another. You see them look after one another with great love and respect.
I never recall my grand father but my mothers mother was such a strong influence in my life. Those who choose to ignore the elders as they see them as different will someday realize all they missed.

Monica, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I can see how this poem would hold great meaning for you.

The site you mentioned kept timing out for me, but I think I found it reprinted on a blogspot. ...hope this is the right one:

My dearest daughter

My dearest daughter the day that you see me old
I ask that you please have patience and that above
all, you try to understand my dearest daughter…

If, when I talk to you, I repeat the same thing a
thousand and one times don’t interrupt me to point
out that I’ve already told you that, instead, please
just listen to me and remember a time when you
were a little girl when I would read to you the same
story, night after night, until you went to sleep.

When I do not want to have a shower, don’t scold me
and please don’t try to embarrass me. Remember,
instead, a time when I had to chase you with a
thousand excuses I invented, in order to get you to
bathe, when you were a little girl.

When you see my ignorance of new technologies,
give me the necessary time to learn a please don’t
roll your eyes or look at me with a mocking face.

Remember, my dearest, I taught you how to do so
many things…to eat properly…to dress and groom
yourself, and how you can confront and deal with life.

The day you notice I became old, my dearest daughter,
Please have patience and, above all, please try to
understand me.

If., occasionally, I lose the memory or the thread of our
conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember
and if I can not do it, don’t become nervous, or impatient,
or arrogant.

Instead, just know in your heart that the most important
thing for me to simply be with you and have you listening
to me.

And when my tired old legs won’t let me walk as before…
give me your hand…in much the same way I did for you
when you made your first steps, and when someday I tell
you that I do not want to live anymore…that I’m ready to
die…please do not get upset or angry…because one day,
my dearest daughter, you will understand.

Until then, just try to understand that my age, reach a point
where we do not live anymore. We just exist.

When this day comes for me you must not feel sad, and or
incompetent for seeing me like this. Instead, I ask that you
be with me, that you try to understand me, that you help me.
Help me as I journey to the end of my life with love and with
a deep understanding of and appreciation for the gift of time
and love we were blessed to share together. I will thank you…
by a smile…and by the immense love I have always had for you!
I love you…My dearest daughter! Your Mother.

Wow - if that doesn't bring on the the niagara falls tears. "A good cry cleanses the soul"

It's only been 25 days since I held Mom's hand and helped her on "her journey".
