Hello all!
Does anyone know of an audio reminder system I could use at my Mom's house to help her remember to do things like eat, take her meds, etc?

Thanks in advance!

honas, one thing does lead to another. Op just posted a link to a pill dispenser that worked well for her in response to Megs, and this page was in the same site. It isn't all you asked for but something here might help some of the problem. Pill boxes with alarms, one says talk or beep, but its probably a computer voice pre recorded.

I am glad to hear you call her daily. If she hears from your sibs regularly, too, then maybe she doesn't need voice recordings of you. I have to say, I share BG's concerns about the safety hazards of being "a little" forgetful. But then, my on brain hangs on to somethings like a bull dog and other things, uh, what was I saying? Oh, oh, ok, safety issues.

Can't push that one hard enough. If you haven't had a home safety check for her(never too soon to do your own either) here is an excellent article for everyone to review.

Have you looked into meals on wheels? That would resolve the cooking issue, plus somebody would be physically seeing her at least once a day.

I suppose it's different in different areas, but when I was driving my volunteer route, we left hot meals every weekday at noon. For some clients, we also left a box lunch for them to have later for supper. I had clients where my instructions were to go into the house, open the meal, give them silverwear and make sure that they were eating before I left. Others, I just handed off the meals at the door.

Honas I am not a particular fan of long distance CG especially when they are forgetful even if its only a little bit.
Visions of my MIL spring to mind several times she left a burner on yes an at the time MIL was only a little forgetful Wink
So for safety sake there are some things you could do to keep her environment safe like unplugging the stove if its electric or shutting off the gas.
Have her use only a microwave for now.
Have you thought about hiring a care giver?
There are also systems out there that you can get through certain companies that are run with a computer.
I dont know anything about it but you can probably do a search on Google for it.

Mom is 88 and in pretty good health. Just a little forgetfull. She forgets to eat on time and sometimes forgets her meds. Her blood sugar gets whacked. She still lives alone in the home we grew up in. I talk to her every day and see her a couple times a week. She thinks the reminders would be good. I thought it would be cool to have my siblings, grand kids etc. on the messages.

Honas, welcome to ECO. Your Mom must not be too confused, just a little forgetful?? If she was really confused, hearing your voice (or any voice) could bring on some really strange reactions.

I know this has come up before and I just draw a blank. How often do you see her and how often would her reminder need re-programing? Can she read or must it be audible? I ask this because my old cell phone had a beep and a text reminder that you could put in the calender section even when there was no service as long as it was charged. I think that there are the electronic personal memo books, minders, whatever they are called, but you would need to have one (depending on her needs) that could have a speaker where ever she is likely to be. If she is in the bedroom, it won't help if the speaker is in the kitchen unless the thing is so loud she would jump out of her skin if she WAS in the kitchen.

Hmmm.

Thanks Bunny!
I was looking for something I could record and schedule several messages on like "Good morning Mom! It's 10 o'clock! or Hi Mom, it's 11 thirty, getting near lunch time", etc. and have them play throughout the day. Kind of like a ghost of me being there.

Hi Honas welcome in Wink

I dont know if this will work or not but it gives you the choice to record messages so I dont see why not.
http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.as...&Target=products.asp
This is the Alz store if it doesnt link right up to the product click under "forgetfulness" go to the 2nd page and click on "Talking Motion Detective"
Hope this helps Smile

Add: the link takes you to the first page of "Forgetfulness" so go to the bottom to get to the next page.
I dont know why this site redirects the way it does it just does....
