Another one that isn't sleeping around here is me. After a long time sleeping almost all the night my husband returned to the pacing and now I have the additional problem that sometimes, at 3:00-4:00AM, no matter I show him the bathroom he walks direct to the kitchen to urinate in the floor.
He is angry and edgy and I am sleeping in the couch but I check on him often. After the battle to get his wet underwear and shoes before he gets to the bed again(not always won), I return to the couch until 6:00AM whne he goes again... I am not complaining too loud. I rather mop the floor than change the bed. When he gets soiled (thank God almost always in the day time) is another battle to get the solied clothes. He do the mess everywhere and then stands on it and I get terrified. That thing is slippery and if he falls he may broke a bone. As many of you may remember I had a long battle with his exwife who was asking for alinmony from this very sick man. The case ended a few moths ago and I had a respite from that people until Thanksgiving. The only daughter that cares for him came from the USA for the day and asked to come to visit. Then she asked if she may came with her aunt, the same one that testified against her own brother to get money for the exwife and called me whore, mare and so many other things. I am still in shock. That woman is capable to do anything her wx-SIL asks her to do as a puppet. Another good reason for lack of sleep... |

Namenda has been said to not work with many elders. The doctor from the VA seems to feel it is over rated and over priced. It is also suppose to be given with Aricept for best results
I saw my aunt hallucinate when she was given an increase in pain meds, also when the doctor increased her heart meds.It was a necessary change and when she was told of the changes she took her back to the normal amount.Within 24 hours she was fine. Not only that but she recalled what she was seeing and feeling while hallucinating.Always in black and never in color what she would see.Mostly it was bugs crawling all over her room. |

My dear mother was a pacer.she would sit for a second, have something on her mind and up she would get and begin to pace.
It took 3 long years before we got the right meds.Too many doctor look at that little black book, look up the disease and prescribe. You need a good neurologist or gheriatric psychologist. Each time they prescribed a new med that would do the opposite. I recall waiting for the welcome change.Never happed when we were so desperate .When she began this one meds she changed so much it was like day and night. |

I agree, please take him to a neurologist or neuropsychiatrist, tell the doc exactly what you've told us, for his meds need to be reviewed, and if this pacing and such is a new symptom, he needs to be thoroughly examined himself to see why this is happening (I firmly believe in finding out why instead of making assumptions why. Assumptions can lead to wrong conclusions.)
For instance, last Fall my mother suddenly stopped sleeping much at night, pacing about, getting horribly confused, talking to her cousin (she thought, cousin lives out of State and not present in the room) and screaming, "I want my dolly. I want my dolly. Bring me my dolly!" Rather than assume this was a manifestation of her mental condition, I took her temperature. She was running a fever. I took her blood pressure. It was high as well, whereas it had been quite well controlled just the day before. Next, I read up on every one of her medicines. I decided the Fentanyl patch she was wearing might be causing this. She had horrific back pain and we'd been awaiting surgery for it (spinal deterioration, MRI's had already been done and nothing worked for the back pain but the Fentanyl patch.) In spite of her behavior, I told her I think the Fentanyl patch might be causing this, so if she doesn't mind, I'm taking that off her right now, though if she starts to feel any more pain again, please tell me. I then removed the Fentanyl patch and watched the clock, and every two hours asked her specific questions to gauge her mental acuity. She was getting better. And in 19 hours, her head was getting a lot clearer. Of course once the doc's office opened, I phoned them, spoke to the nurse, described her symptoms and what I was doing about it and told them if they have a proble with it, please tell me and I will take her in that day, but if not, this is what I'm doing and I'll let him know the results the next day. Got a phone call back and nurse said Doc said that's a good game plan. While I was talking to the nurse, my mother corrected me, angrily, that she was not talking to her out of State cousin, I WAS and why don't I see her cousin in her bedroom the way SHE does? LOL. By 36 hours, her head was clear and she had no memory of her behavior. Thankfully she also had no back pain. From that moment she has continued to not have any pain and thus, did not get the surgery, in spite of the spine deterioration, and is on no medicines for her back. At 36 hours I took her to that doc for checkup. Whatever was causing her fever was gone. I think it was the Fentanyl patch itself leading to fever. But upshot of this is, please go over your husband's medicines including that patch, and see if any of it could be contributing to his behavior. See if he is running a fever. See what his blood pressure is. Phone the doctor now with this information and tell them what medical help you think your husband needs. If you're not sure of what he needs, then tell them he needs medical intervention right now. Please don't assume this is something that can not be helped. Perhaps it can be. We won't know until taking these steps. Big hugs. |

Yes, my husband is with Dr. care, and take namenda, seroquel 100 mg. and exelon patch 4.6mg/24 hours. And some days look like the medicine work, but they are very rare....

Sorry - I didn't complete that thought... Perhaps his medications need adjusting to stop the hallucinations, paranoia and restlessness so that he can sleep at night...
