I am concerned about my husband who is 9 years older than I, and what is going to happen to me and how we will handle this. I am getting bad complications from diabetes, my bipolar illness is never very stable (even though I go to doctors regularly). I am starting to have difficulty driving. I lose things constantly. Some days I can cook and take care of my husband and other days I cannot due to one reason or another. My husband is fairly healthy; no bad health problems yet but he is obese and we are trying to lose weight before the health problems get worse.

I am 52, he is 61. I just wonder about the future all the time while I'm trying to savor every stable moment that I have. I have been in mental hospitals and watched people who have to go into nursing homes and I'm so afraid of that. I just wonder how long this one way ride takes...I have a high chance of getting cancer, too.

Sorry to be negative. Just want to stop worrying.

Sweetie, NONE of us ever know how much time we have... You could be healthy as a horse and suddenly have a brain hemmorhage that leaves you drooling on your tee shirt. Your known conditions could worsen and that would be that. OR you could go to the drugstore to pick up a prescription and get run over by a truck!

Stop worrying so much! You are doing what you can do as best you can. No sense in worrying about things over which you can have no control.
To worry so over stuff prevents you from being happy and enjoying life TODAY.

Cross those other bridges when you get to them. In the meantime, look around for the blessings of the day you are given and enjoy whatever you can! Big Grin

LDD as PG said walk. Diabetes though.... Sweetie what meds are you on? Alot of the meds on the market produce hunger which tends to make you want to eat alot more than you should...that forgetfulness well thats you not being kind to yourself and by that I mean your not eating the right foods drinking water and exersising daily. Get those endorphins kicked into high gear....My hunny went through the same thing here too. You need to be proactive in combatting these side effects of diabetes its a nasty thing....How are your feet and legs doing are you suffering from any spasms/leg cramps?
Try this for a month here and see how you feel. Eliminate all caffiene, beef and whites (meaning any food that starts with flour or sugars) example: ALL breads (i dont care whether they say they are whole grain they start with flour) noodles crackers NO CHIPS lol (not laughing at you chips are the really bad Im callin you in the middle of the night food! Big Grin)anything with sugar in it. Avoid sweeteners also, in some people (like my hunny and mil) they actually spike blood sugar readings. Have some chamomile tea if you drink hot beverages in the morning and sweeten with honey instead. Oh yeah no milk. No no. Clean your system out...now you might go through a little grouchiness but this is the toxins leaving the body and the fact your not feeding your body sweets/starches and caffiene. When your body is finished with the withdrawls of these types of foods you will start to feel better really you will.... Get some nice chicken breasts, broil, bake, or boil only, no frying and eat your vegetables. Wink Stay away from sauces of any type and only sides of vegetables. Feed yourself up to 5 times a day with nothing ever bigger than your fist. Fresh fruits (I dont care what anyone says) are good for you they are sugars in their natural form and do no harm to your body. I have proven that here for the last 8 years in my mil alone. I feed her up to 7 different fruits a day in her shakes that I blend for her. She is on no diabetes meds now and BS readings are never over 110. Wink

The exercise idea is great for you both so hope you can give each other support with that, as sounds like DH really needs too! Gives you good time together too. Walking, walking, walking...do you have a good place to do this that is safe for you both? What complications from diabetes? Do you monitor your blood sugar 2 or more times daily? On insulin or not? You need sleep too-- You wrote people here at 4 am. Do you think you should consider moving into an AL facility to eliminate some needs, like the need to drive? Just an idea. Maybe not a good one? Need life to be manageable though, so it is enjoyable. Any grown children to bounce ideas around with too? Family input?
