Hello, I'm thinking of offering private care in my home as a LLC business. Has anyone ever done this before? Laws for or against? Advise?

This would not be a medical facility, I am not a nurse, but just to offer an alternative, family surrounding as opposed to N. homes.

Any thoughts? Thanks

norma jeen. i just talked to a lady here while looking for temporary care for daisy. she runs a place in her home like what you describe. i asked what was involved. this is for the state of michian so check with your own state under licensing in the yellow pages, it should be listed under gov. agencies. it didn't sound much different that getting licensed for day care as far as home inspection and background check. as long as you don't offer medical care and have proper legal documents drawn up specifically stating what both sides agree to. see an attorney for this to protect yourself and to make sure everythng is covered and clear. start with state licensing and they will be able to answer your questions. good luck.

Actually I'm thinking of a 24/7 live in arrangment where I am responsible for the person be it elderly or handicaped. I have worked with the elderly (getting too close to home now) several times throughout my life and LOVE working with them. I think it is because I loved my grandma so much or I'm just given a special grace to deal.

But I haven't done the 24/7 thing yet, so it may be harder than I'm thinking. My hope too has always been to make money at home. I have raised (am raising) seven children so I am used to staying close to home. I'm also finishing my Psychology degree online and am hoping this will help.

Thanks for your input,

Norma Jean

Bless your heart!
You would probably have to follow federal and state rules and regulations.

Welcome in Norma you have stated you work with the handicapped and now you wish to open your home to this type of care, bless your heart. There is a special place in my heart for this type of work Wink
This is a completely different topic than what we normally deal with here but my mom used to do some caregiving (or babysitting depending on how you look at it) for a woman who did this type of work for a few hours each week so she could go do her personal errands.
The way she did it was through our local Foster Parenting programs in our area.
Have you thought about doing that NJ? Many area agencies are in need of Foster Parents to handicapped children and since you have the experience you are ahead of the game they will interview and set everything up for you Wink
Hope this helps you in your endeavors Smile

Thanks for your help

Norma, few here are in a position to offer you advice about business. All states have sets of laws, and guidelines, for care, and for home business. Check your state's web site, and perhaps the Area Agency on Aging.

I cannot, nor do I think there is any one here who is qualified to advise you about being in business. I will say, you better be prepared for a full background check. I would require it. A consult with an elder law attorney may be enlightening.

Good luck. If you are able and sincere, someone will be lucky to have you.
