My MIL has fallen twice in the past three months sustaining injuries which have required hospital stays and weeks of nursing home care. I would like to find a bed sensor connected to a recorder which I could program to say, "remember to use your cane" when she gets out of bed to use the bathroom during the night. I've found many bed sensors with alarms on the internet, but nothing with a reminder. Do you know of any? Thanks.
If you choose you can invest in any motion detector with a 'Remote" alarm that can be placed at the nurses station with her name on it. However nothing is worth her falling. Perhaps a change to a more supervised situation could work. Although nothing is failsafe. Check out www.alzstore.com
Welcome, Comet's Mom! Better than a recorded reminder would be a gentle alarm to alert you (or the staff) that mom is up and needs supervision. Those late night calls are TOUGH, I know, but when folks have trouble ambulating and are unsteady, they really do need someone to assist them, especially at night when they are sleepy and wobbly.
You might check on a home security site - I know there are recorders that play messages when they are tripped, like the "You have entered a restricted area" type of things... I think you may find what you need there. Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me. She is in a assisted living center for those with dementia. The staff does a great job of helping her remember to use her cane during the day, but the falls have occurred at night when she has gotten out of bed to use the bathroom. This facility does not have the bed alarms tied to a central monitoring station. We would like to keep her where she is for as long as possible because they have numerous activities during the day which helps to keep her engaged. If the night time problem can't be solved, however, the next step would be a nursing home, an option we hope to avoid for as long as possible.
Welcome in Comets mom Cant say as Ive ever heard of anything like that just the alarms that warn you of movement My MIL is pretty much in the same situation now so its a matter of getting up with them now if they have to use the bathroom. Im guessing she is on medication to help her sleep, yes? Could you tell us a bit more on her ailments that way we can better help you out
