Hi all,
Thanx for your prayers and thoughts! God is good!!! Got another update on dad. Mom & dad are getting the meals on wheels, and they got a handicapped permit. Unfortunately the county (or State) determined that my parents make too much money to qualify for the waiver program. When they added in the $96 they get from Medicare that put them over the limit. -sigh- Also have prayer need for dad - mom said he got into the area where his medications are kept and he took too many of some of his pills. He was throwing up for a while and is now on his way in an ambulance to the ER. He is truly in God's hands now, and whatever happens will happen. Thanx everyone This message has been edited. Lynda, good to hear from you...As far as I am concerned, Found Cats (or any cats) are never off topic. Glad she is back.
Hmmm, It looks like checking the bathroom after Dad has been in it is going to be a part of the routine now. Fingers crossed that the damage was minimal. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Hi everyone
I'm so sorry for not keeping you up to date with the ups and downs of dad's antics and mom's trying to cope with it all. At least the GREAT part (and this is OT) is that one of mom's cats, Angel, who was missing for 3 months, was found and safely trapped, then returned home. While I was there, she also had new laminated flooring installed in the master bedroom & bathroom where dad resides. So no more worries about cleaning the rug the next time he has an accident. I basically cared for myself and tried to help mom out but you know how moms can be - stubborn as all get out! I did help her with cleaning out some of the excess stuff she'd accumulated. We dropped off tons of stuff to the local thrift store, then found a bunch of Gramma H.'s unused word search puzzle books and large-print Reader's Digest condensed books which we gave to the nursing home. So at least that much was accomplished. Dad also got a hospital bed (he liked the one in the place he stayed at so much he requested one just like it) and a lift chair, which he really loves. I'm copy & pasting an update from my mom on dad-looks like my brothers & I better try and help mom get dad into a nursing home soon. "this has been a very hectic week but I coped until last night when I lost it. Dad had gone to the bathroom early afternoon and apparently turned the water on in the sink (not a big stream fortunately) and threw his washcloth into the sink (which plugged off the drain and flooded the bathroom into the rest of the house (underneath?) at least as far as the dining room. I didn't have any reason to go into that bathroom till towards bedtime to check on conditions as to what we had to do when he went to bed. I almost went into shock over all the mess. And he was laughing the whole time because I was so distraught. Now I worry about how much damage it did to the new floor as well as what effect it had on the kitchen floor. I am pretty mad over it (mostly at myself for not checking better) but he hadn't done THAT before and usually have to fight with him to get washed up even. I feel so really bad because I'm afraid the new floors will not survive and all the expense you went to in the kitichen [note: My brothers paid for and installed new kitchen flooring last winter], I doubly worry about that. So I apologize for ruining the floors and I don't know what to do next. It was a terrible job getting the water sopped up off the floor. Hopefully the floor thatis down will survive as long as he does. The other thing he did was (in his underwear) carried out a couple of bags of garbage that I was filling to take to the dump today and he got up at some ungodly hour took the garbage out to the ramp, where running around on the front porch was Jackie and frantically looking for a way to get back in the house. And he sat in his chair with his shoes on and jacket but no trousers since whenever he got up. He is SO QUIET when he does stuff, I never heard him even though I slept right there. Well, that's my story for today. Just wanted to let you know what happened and I fear it will cost more money from the damage." Love & prayers, Lynda |

Hi Lynda, I am sure it was hard for you and your Mom to see your Dad so upset, But you see the "up" side and maybe he will, too. Just 3 weeks and the plans are for him to come home as fit and able as he can be. Your Mom can rest up and maybe you can all use this chance to update a thing or two to help when he is home again.
Primary on my mind is a different way to handle meds in the house (and not just meds, but anything poisonous). Think seriously about putting a lock on a cabinet where meds are stored. It is good to hear that all signs are that he WILL come home again. I hope all will encourage him to do his best with therapy so that he can stay home under the best possible circumstances. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

Got yet another update.
Dad is going to a nursing home for the next 3 weeks. He'll be going there either today (Monday) or tomorrow (Tuesday). Dad thought he was coming back home and was literally sobbing because he couldn't come back yet. They said he needs to go for therapy. This also of course means my mom gets a nice break from caring for him, so she can relax a little bit and take care of herself. I will be on vay-cay during the time dad's in the nursing home, so I'll be sure to go visit him. He has family nearby - his brothers and sisters mostly live around the same area - so they'll come and see him, plus the nurses will be caring for him and he'll enjoy that too. Thank you all for your prayers, God answered once again! Love & prayers, Lynda |

Hi everyone,
Have an update on dad's situation....the drs. say he probably threw up all the meds he took, since he was still vomiting when they took him in the ambulance and then started vomiting blood. Mom said (and I don't know how she knew this) he took 3 Excelon, 3 Zoloft, and 3 Namenda. He was still in the hospital Sunday - they kept him for observation. Saturday he was really upset and cursing out the staff, but Sunday he was better and sitting up in bed. Don't know if he'll come home Monday or Tuesday, but when I found out I'll let you know. Love & prayers, Lynda |
