Kats the reason I bring up BS levels they could be too low this sometimes happens and what accompanies it is nausea.
Anything under 80 will cause the nauseousness to occur in some folks along with sweats, shakiness. blurred vision (that also happens when its too high) You really got to keep on top of BS levels especially times when she may eat alone/unsupervised my MIL would stash food she didnt want to eat or she would eat and go to the bathroom to "toss her cookies" (bad habit of hers) ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

Thanks everyone. The meds have not changed at all. Same as always. We prepare all her meals and the meals are all nutrious and they are the foods she has always eaten and enjoyed. We eliminated junk food and soft drinks at least 3 years ago. The blood sugar idea may be the ticket. She has not ever had a problem with that, but maybe it is something new. Maybe at her age, she is developing diabetes. We will have her cked asap. Ya'll are sooooooooo helpful.

Even a sinus infection can make you feel sick in the tummy. So many things affect the tummy and then affect the rest of our bodies. My experience with stomach has taught me this

Vision and inner ear problems can make them nauseaous as well.
If it were me, I'd ask her doctor about having her evaluated. Unfortunately, when they have dementia, they aren't always able to express exactly what hurts. But, yeah, I'd put meds as my #1 suspect to rule out. |

Hi Kats. My first guess would be meds also. Only other thought is that sometimes when Mom's bowels get overloaded, she feels nauseated...

Hello Kats I would have to wholeheartedly agree with MW & BC on medication side effects.
What time of the day does she get nauseous does it come shortly after taking medication like around a half hour? Is she taking vitamins sometimes these cause nauseousness in people I myself can not take vitamins because of this. When she feels this way does she in fact vomit? If so does it relieve the symptoms? Could it be something she is consuming? Even if it is something that she has eaten all her life. Or has she been taking any pain medications? If so has she been taking them for a while and shes weening off them now? I think the final question is are you her primary CG? If so what are you seeing? Sometimes as a CG we have to put on the ole detective hat and investigate these matters ourselves to find the answers If your are her CG start a journal write in it everyday her meds she takes and times, what she is eating & drinking, whether or not her input equals her output, ask her how she feels throughout the day after meals and snacks. Hmmm how about blood sugar levels Kats? You may want to test her. If you have a monitor take a BS reading in the AM BEFORE breakfast to see what her fasting blood sugar level is. Keep us posted ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

Welcome back Kats, I agree with MERRWID that her meds would be the first place to look, Any changes recently? Ruling that out
http://www.ec-online.net/Knowledge/Articles/admedications.html Next I would wonder about any changes in foods. Artificial sweetners make me feel ill. Most of the nutritional drinks rely on them. Being "intermittant", it could be something she eats or even a reaction to something in the air on particular days, like cleaning products. Any chance she has lost the words for other symptoms and calls all discomfort a stomach ache? Check with the pharmacyst and her PCP while getting to the bottom of this. * the crystal ball (*) is in the shop>>>> |

What kind of medication is she taking? Have you researched any of the side effects or drug interactions?
Is this a new complaint, or has she been complaining for quite a while now? |
