I joined a long time ago and lurked mostly..my hubbie and I have been fulltiming in an rv for about 5 years and lucky enough mom was doing "ok". She has started going downhill very fast and we are getting ready to move into a 2 bedroom apt and move her in with us. She is not happy about it, but it is a must do now. She is refusing to eat now, getting very depressed and grumpy. I know this is going to be a long haul and very difficult for my husband and me and worse for her as her world is changing quickly. I welcome any tips and suggestions anyone can offer. I look forward to the support I have seen here.

I have just been diagnosed with LBD. It's a crushing diagnosis. It took awhile to get the correct diagnosed, as some of my symptoms overlapped with other brsin disease. I am schizoaffective/bipolar/paranoide disordered. While I am treated for those illnesses with Rxs, I understand that the prognosis for LBD is not good. I am terrified of dying and would like to hear about GOOD experiences.

Help is right! Maybe I am the one with learning impairments, but I could not figure out how to do a new post! So here I am, with a question about finding a CD PLAYER for my mom who has dementia - one that is EASY to use!!! She has a boombox, but no way can she remember how to use it. She does not need a radio, really - and the simpler, the better.
While I am at it, have you discovered the WEE-MOTE, a very easy remote for Seniors? Just google WEE MOTE. Its a life saver for my mom. |

Hi FTM. Just wanted to pass on a possible tip for you about the compression fracture. My life partner has had several and I know how miserable they are for her. My partner has had a procedure done called kyphoplasty. Basically, the doc injects a special type of bone cement into the area where the fracture is. It's usually done outpatient, and though there may be some discomfort from the procedure initially, relief from the fracture can be pretty quick. It's usually done by either a radiologist or neurosurgeon. You may want to check with your Mom's doc and see if this is an option for her.
I wish you well! "Whatever tomorrow brings, I"ll be there-with open arms and open eyes" |

Honey....I need that laugh as I read your note because it has been one of those days.. The story about my siblings is a long one and right now I am angry just because of the way it is hurting my mom. Other than that...they are the ones that will have to make peace with themselves. I sure do appreciate your help today and I am sure I will be a regular on these boards now. *S*

Sorry as for the siblings...unfortunately been there done that it doesnt get any easier.
All I can say to that is speak to them as you have always done in the past, some folks are born caregivers and some arent and we have to sometime just accept that and treat them with the same love and devotion we always have. Their not flawed by any means when it comes to care giving I believe its just a matter of not wanting to watch the ones they love tortured by the ravages of time and this disease. Most people have a basic knowledge of it and have heard some stories on the matter, my hunny being one who regularly reports to me new cases he hears about with a co worker or a customer and then tells them if they ever need a hand *thanks hunny! Ill set here years from now asking myself how we honestly got through this disease relatively unscathed...or did we??? Man I think I better take a nice hot bubble bath after this Im thinkin too dam deep about this journey Anyhooo my dear you have landed yourself in a place where compassionate and knowledgeable people reside *nevermind me and my penchant to joke around or have an occasional rant session* BTW there is an anger wall for just those kinda days its good to release and show others your human not super human....although....I think on a rant I could beat down the incredible hulk ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

The cf actually just happened about a week ago after I picked her up to travel with me. I am afraid that corrective surgery is not going to be an option for her because of some other issues. We have some appointments for her next week as we are leaving and bringing her back to her home area. She hasn't been seen by a geriatric psych yet, just one more thing to add to my list of things to talk to the pcp about. Thanks for that suggestion, hadn't thought of that one.

Hi sweetie welcome back.
How long ago did this CF take place Did the PCP put her on some kind of pain management ie meds for pain? I wholeheartedly feel for you I went through pretty much the same thing with my MIL and unless there is an option for corrective surgery (for mil there is none as its too dangerous) this will last for a while if she has to mend on her own. Rehab is one thing that needs to be done unless the PCP warrants it is not an option due to the severity of the fracture. Sometimes Namenda alone doesnt do the trick, in some cases it needs to be taken in conjunction with another drug to be effective. Has she been seen by a Geriatric psych doc yet? If not get her PCP to give a referral to one your going to need this kind of specialist irregardless of her current injury, a primary care physician is just a general practitioner of medicine they are not trained in issues dealing with AD. ********************************************** Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. |

Thanks. She is 89 and we knew dementia was coming on slowly several years ago. The rapid decline just began a few months ago. She is currently on namenda. Like many others, I have 2 siblings who do not even see her, so my husband and I are the ones figuring this whole thing out. Physically she has been in good shape till recently, she now has a compressed fracture which is causing her a great deal of pain, causing the depression, anxiety and feelings of helplessness, which are all making the dementia worse.
