Some people always ask the same questions repeatedly. They experience sudden mood swings frequently, and feel very agitated and anxious very easily. At times, they wander about aimlessly, yell, start crying, or display emotions of combativeness and aggression. Sleep disturbances, inappropriate sexual behaviour, hallucinations and delusions are a part of life for these folks too. These persons are afflicted with Dementia.

Dementia sufferers need your support!

We are Raison De’tre, a team of students from the Singapore Management University. Currently, we are collaborating with Yong-en Care Centre (provides day care service for dementia clients) to serve as their ‘voice’; a ‘voice’ to educate local netizens on basic information about the disease of Dementia; a ‘voice’ to tell the story of dementia patients from their points of view and their care givers! We will create a blog to achieve this goal.

Yong-en Care Centre, located at Chinatown in Singapore, has been serving the elderly, kids, teens and families in the community for the past 12 years. Since 2002, Yong-en Care Centre has been staffed by experienced professionals to provide a day care service for dementia clients to enhance their physical and psychological well-being. With a full sense of mission and fast increasing demands, Yong-en Care Centre is committed to help more elderly with dementia and give support to their families by embarking on their Dementia Day Care Expansion Plan in 2008.

As such, Raison De’tre is helping Yong-en Care Centre by engaging our target group of local netizens to be more aware of the plight of dementia clients through an online campaign.

The blog records some details and inspiring stories in the lives of Yong-en’s dementia clients for readers to understand the conditions of dementia better. By engaging the online community, we hope to rally more support for community service providers like Yong-en Care Centre to help elderly with dementia.

Please visit our blog at http://ycc-dementia.spaces.live.com/ and show us your support today!!

Feel free to leave constructive comments at the blog. They will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for the support. If this post is not meant to be here, any suggestions where it should be?

Thanks for sharing, percussion. ECO has long recognized the role of dementia in caring for elderly people and has devoted a great deal of discussion and information to that aspect. There are many resource sites noted here who deal with the topic of dementia. In short, you are preachin' to the choir! Smile

Best of luck with your organization and site. I hope it benefits your citizens in a positive manner.

Percussions86, For most of us, Singapore is not even close to local, but of course the net does bring us closer together. I am not quite certain if your post belongs in this section. We may move it.

We at ECO are very familiar with the difficulties of families coping with dementia. Many have been very alone except for online support. Perhaps you will participate here as well as just leaving an address. Some of your experience may be useful, and perhaps our experiences will be helpful to you as well.
