Quite suddenly on May 1, Don passed away.
He was in the hospital, and as late as Sunday, everyone was talking about his going to a rehabilitation facility for evaluation (home again with me, or permanent long term care placement).
The doctor spoke with me Monday, about 7 in the evening, seemed to indicate Don was headed downhill but still had some time to go. At 2AM, the nurse on duty called and said he had taken a turn for the worse. I was there by 2:30, but just missed him.
Odd for this time of year - it was about 70 degrees, there was a full moon, and not a cloud in the sky. At dawn that morning, it started to rain, and didn't quit for the next 3 days.
I'm back to work today, trying to establish a "new normal". I really wish they'd be their usual selves - all this 'nice' is making it worse!
I'll peek in from time to time, just to keep up with all of you, and possibly contribute something useful.
Gabgan, sorry to hear about your mom.

Donswife, you have always had so many kind and encouraging words for everyone. I only wish I knew something to say to help you right now. I always hope, that when we see a suffering loved one released from pain, we will find release as well. I don't know if it will be true for me, but I pray it will be true for you and all of us.

So sorry to hear about Don. I know what you mean about all the nice - nice. The day I got home after mom died we had a noreastern that flooded most of the town and closed schools on Monday. I'm still trying to establish a new normal but taking it all day by day. I find coming here is like being with family so please keep on coming as much as you can.
