"The Bush administration shut off a source of information last fall about abuse and neglect in long-term care facilities that people suing nursing homes consider crucial to their cases. Jean Hanson talks about her parents who were allegedly abused in a nursing home in Minnesota. A new rule enacted by the Bush administration has made it harder to get information for such cases. The change, which affects the $144 billion nursing-home industry, was enacted with no public notice or attention. "This is pretty stunning," said Mark Kosieradzki, a plaintiff attorney in Plymouth, Minn. "Nobody was told. It was just done." (Link goes to entire article) |

I was surprised because it seems to me the inspectors, etc. are working for us, the public. Who else would be more concerned about the information? The last administration's tendency toward secrecy in all things doesn't do us favors in this issue. I hope things are rapidly changed.

Nice catch, Op..I am a little slow on the beat lately. This got me wondering more about the rule. I found abunch of articles from Feb 24 to today and most seem to be based on this one from Bloomberg which has a little more info.
