These were animal studies, but I think that few of us would be surprised by the findings.

I had 2 teeth pulled a month ago, no anesthesia for the reason that has been disgussed. When hubby had his last procedure in hospital I had to insist the anisteshiologist<spelling< give him a spinal because I knew what it could do with anyone who experiences dementia. His doctor had this n writing from the beginning but left me to made this a must.I do believe my mother and hubby having so many surgeries and having to go under enhanced their dementia. My dentist was so pleased with my choice as he knew the dangers involved. The older we become the worst it can be on our bodies.Very frightening to think about

FrownDon't think it is just AD it affects. I know our doc has said that Mike probably would loose what little mental ability he has if he was to have anesthesia(we know his left carotid is also partially blocked-he was having the right one done when he had the stroke in the recovery room. This article got me thinking-Mike took a turn for the worse a few years ago when he had a tooth pull-the dental surgeon insisted on putting him under. He was a bit of a jerk-long story for another day.I know I would NEVER have anesthesia again unless it there was NO alternative. I don't understand people that have needless surgery. Do you get the program "Vanity Insanity" maybe some of these patients should be shown this article and others about the dangers of anesthesia. Gypsy

Very compelling, TORP. THanks so much for sharing this. It sounds like the study is defining what many of us have observed in our loved ones. It sure did speed things up for Mom... Wink

This is supposed to be true, on my Mom's last hospital admit in late January, it was decided that there would be no more invasive procedures that would require anthesthia (SP>>OOPS) The main reason being that it would accelerate the AD dementia and since she was progressessing pretty quick, that outweighed any good any procedure would accomplish at this point.
And I had noticed that the last procedure she had done which was a colonoscopy...where they only give you that "twilight" drug to sedate you, that she did, indeed seem to degress as far as her memory.
With all of her other health issues aside from the AD, I think this was a good decision , for her situation.
