I am new to this message board and so just learning my way around, so please be gentle! Smile

Since the flurizan trials are closed and time is not a luxury for those with Alzheimers, I am wondering if anyone might know if Flurizan (R-Flurbiprofen) is available outside the US, perhaps Mexico or Canada?

Also, is R-Flurbiprofen chemically the same thing as Flurbiprofen? Would it be worthwhile to put my mother on Flurbiprofen if R-Flurbiprofen is unavailable?

Thanks for any information you may have!

You are very welcome sweetie Wink
What Dochka said please think about if this drug is not on the market as of yet you may not get the whole truth about the effects of it.
You are trying to slow the progress of this disease yes? There really are a number of meds out here in our own market, the ones mentioned by Dochka also Ativan, Razadyne, Excelon, Cognex. Theres another I cant remember the name to but do a search engine on Alz. Drugs (or treatments) and a list will pop up.
Yes there are side effects but it really is dependent on the individual themselves.
May I ask why you are looking for this particular drug?

Dear kywldctga, What current meds is your LO taking? There are still alot of great results to be had with the Namenda/Aricept combination.
My mom is still doing pretty well on them.

kywldcatga hey there welcome in
I would be extremely careful with medications coming in but if this is something you are he** bent on doing I would deal with the Canadian side of things for reasons I wont get into first you must have a doctors prescription for this med that is the only way legally you are going to get this by way of a legitimate pharmacy there are several sites you can go through but this is one I think my Aunt actually deals with you will have to ask if they carry it if not they could probably direct you to one that does

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Flurbiprofen
Flurbiprofen is a member of the phenylalkanoic acid derivative family of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used to treat the inflammation and pain of arthritis. It is also known by the trade name ANSAID and marketed by Pfizer.

R-flurbiprofen is the single enantiomer of racemate flurbiprofen; this compound is currently in clinical trials for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, and Alzheimer's disease.

The above is from wikipedia. It would seem they are related, I don't know what "racemate" means, but I don't think they are exactly the same. Also what I see, doesn't makethis drug hopeful enough right now to start going to Mexico for it.
