Is this a server glitch? What's going on?
First the chatroom went down and now the main page address is the International Women's Democracy Centre? It looks to me like the administrator no longer has any interest in maintaining this site. I suggest we all find an alternative Forum or Support Group; if the administrator is no longer interested in taking care of the site, the ownership/hosting of the Forum probably isn't far behind. Please note: I'm not blaming the moderators, and I hope no one else is either. The Moderators are undoubtedly as confused and in the dark as the rest of us. |

That explains it. I'm not what you'd call anti-microsoft, but they do have the tendency to release their software before it's been adequately tested and debugged. I'm rassling with a new Vista machine right now so MS is on my "list." LOL Took me several days of searching, tweaking settings in dozens of places, and installing patches just to keep it from turning the computer on randomly. (Turned out, in my case, to be several issues relating to power settings on various devices, and the last critter was the automatic overnight maintenance Vista performs. When I turn the computer off, I want it to remain OFF until I turn it back on, doggone it. Who's working for whom? But I'm constantly having to try to outwit this computer.) |

Server errors happen not infrequently and are not always due to the host server of a site. A 404, for example, can be produced if any server in the chain from your computer to the page you are requesting and all the way back has a glitch. It is nothing to be concerned about unless it persists and you have no problems going to other sites on the internet.
The best action is to clear your browser cache and try again in a few moments. As I mentioned previously, for frequent visitors, the best route to the forums is to save a bookmark directly to the main forum page http://eldercare.infopop.cc/eve "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." |

Probably just a server error, CJ. I clicked the home page after seeing your message and it came up just fine. Try now.

What's going on with the homepage. I clicked on like i always do and got a server error. The only way I could get on here was to reply to hap and then was able to see the forum.
Does anyone have answers... --Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.-- |

Good work, Casey! It's so NICE not to see the latest photos of the movers & shakers in the women's democracy movement!
I couldn't tell if it looked intentional (a hijack), but the info I got from Netcraft indicated that they made a change to their servers recently (to a Windows platform) and the DNS addys looked all KINDS of scrambled. I think TORP should be awarded the Best Cyber Guess prize! CONGRATULATIONS, TORP!! Folks, if you are used to accessing the forum from the main page, it never hurts to create a bookmark directly here. The software for the forums and the other parts of the site (like the home page) live on different servers, so if something goes haywire again, you will have another way in. I'm so sorry for the hijack of our homepage. The hosting company was not very forthcoming but they did admit that it was a glitch in their servers. As of 2:15 EST they said it would be corrected within 2-6 hours.
Meanwhile the main page can be accessed at http://64.224.241.15/ These technical issues (chat room, forum and homepage) are unrelated and coincidental. I am still very interested in hosting and supporting the website; it's just that I don't have a lot of time to troubleshoot. The moderators do an amazing job of helping and guiding our members. I just haven't been so strong on the technical/administrative end. |

I have heard from the site admin and he has a trouble ticket in with the webhost. As it's Thanksgiving weekend, the webhost is not responding very quickly.

I'm not saying that I'm not interested in EC anymore. I intend to participate as long as the forum is available. I've participated on and moderated various forums over the last decade and I've seen slow declines happen just like this over and over. I'm simply saying that it might be wise to have a backup plan in case the forum disapears entirely - I've seen it happen elsewhere.

MB, Maybe I typed in www.ec_online.net? Glad to hear that the site is still registered to to the owners. Must be some mix up with the server. Hope this all gets straighted out on Monday.

The chatroom did not "go down," it was disabled for security reasons due to the fact that it cannot be monitored on a 24/7 basis. It was not an accident and done at the request of the moderators of this site. This was not a decision discussed with the general membership nor does it need to be. The home page remains a mystery. Many theories have been expressed, but we do not have any conclusive answers at this time.
Your assumption that the admin is no longer interested in this site is somewhat narrow. People sometimes are not active participants at their own sites for MANY reasons in life - disinterest is only one of them.
If you would like to find and alternative to this forum, you are free to do so. There ARE members, readers and moderators here who still ARE interested in ECO. I appreciate the "heads up" about the home page and it has been reported. It's Thanksgiving weekend here and people have been very busy all week. I think we are all well-served to reserve judgment until we discover the facts of the matter. "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." |

GailSusan, you are mistaken. Here is the information from that site:
Perhaps you misread the last whois update info and misunderstood... If you read above, transfer of the registration is not allowed and a search of the registrar's whois database revealed that the domain is still registered to Rich and his company. "She ain't heavy; she's my mother." |

Hi Everyone, I haven't been here in a while and had trouble finding the site as I'm bookmarked to the main page. I managed to find you via a Google search of cached pages.
I went on www.easywhois.com and found that the registration for www.ec-online.net was not registered to anyone as of November 22, 2007. That suggests that the owner of the domain name allowed it to expire. I don't know why the Women's Democracy website comes up even though there is no ownership of the domain name at present. |

Normally, that's how it works. However, if the DNS registration info for ECO has changed and the numerical IP address formerly inhabited by eco now has a new "resident" for some period of time the default front page for eco will resolve to the default front page for the new resident. I'd bet that if you have other pages from further inside eco bookmarked, they'll come up 404. |

The domain name has been registered (unless it was not renewed). If the host was changed, all one would get while the nameserver change propagated thruogh the net is either the old page, or a 404 - Page not found. Having changed nameservers and hosts many times, I have never had International Women's Democracy Centers come up when someone clicked on my domain...

Any number of things might result in this, not the least of which is changing hosts. It takes a while for all the "behind the scenes" stuff such as domain name registration, etc. to catch up.
(...oops...sorry TORP... I accidently posted on your message...) This message has been edited. Last edited by: Moms_Buddy, |

I emailed the email addy given to us moderators by another member (NONE of the moderators receive replies to emails sent to the addys that are on this site). Hopefully he'll reply. Or perhaps he's into women's issues now...
