I need to find out where to get a certified copy of my Dad's POA. (I have the original) He had a stroke 3 months ago and I've attempted to contact his creditors and online bank accounts and they will not speak with me until they have a certified copy.

Welcome in Margaret glad to have you Im sorry to hear about your Dad, how is he doing now?

Confused A certified copy? If you have his POA you can copy it on a regular copier I have tons of times or maybe they mean a Notary public needs to copy it for you or maybe they mean it needs to be sent to them in certified mail.
Margaret can you call the company up again and ask them exactly what they mean?
Im curious Ive never heard of this.
As far as online accounts goes you can still conduct business as usual if you have his passwords I do that all the time without having to contact the institutions.

He is recovering but it is a very slow process and he may never be 100%. Thanks for your concern.
All of this very new to me. I mailed regular copies to them and that's when I was informed that they need certified copies.
Unfortunately my father doesn't even remember having accounts much less the passwords. The bank will assist me as soon as I send the certified copy.
So the journey continues, what is certified copy and where do you get one?

I think that BG is probably right. Presuming that your original has a notary seal, then what they must want is a duplicate with an original notary seal certifying it as a true copy.

I used to be a notary in my state and did these all the time. But, if I were you, I'd contact them and ask if this will serve.

Or, another thought, perhaps if you show up at the bank in person with your original document, they will copy it for their file and return your original to you.

I recently went through the POA route and found out the following. If you have the original, then you can make "certified copies" by either returning to the place where the original was created and request copies or go to a color copier and make as many color copies as you can. Some agencies want to see a "certified" copy and I returned to the law office to get one, only to find out they copied the original on a color copier! and when I asked them if that was all I needed to do, the law office said yes, that is all.

You may want to try these small shipping and copy stores.
They might know. and Someimes the owneror an employee is a notary, too.
Also read the POA itself. Mine says that an original is not required and that a copy is sufficient.
