My mom lives with me and I need to file income taxes for her. She has alzheimer and is in a wc and cannot hold a pen in her hand. I have been to the IRS in my state and they will not help me. I have been online to efile her taxes but have made mistakes and to talk to somes takes about an hour wait. I waited for 1 hour the other nite and noone came on the phone. I cannot just sit and wait like that when I have other things to do. My mom does not have POA and everything is still in her name. I am just about to pull my hair out. Is there anything or anyone who has any suggestions. I live in South Carolina.

I think it works best by zip code. Also try your local area agency on aging (should be in the government pages of your phone book). They often have volunteers for seniors this time of year. Also if there is a support group for Alzheimer's in your area, they may have a list for help.

If your mother has been diagnosed with AD prior to arranging for POA, you will need help, probably from an elder attorney, to get this done, and, as you see, it is very important. I can't urge you strongly enough to look into this as soon as you possibly can. Once again some times there are lawyers who work with the council on aging or agency on aging. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Stressed welcome in
BC is right you will need the services of an Eldercare Attorney in your district a confirmation by your Moms PCP stating she has AD.
Also one more thing if she makes under a certain income, because she lives with you, you can also write her off as a dependent on YOUR taxes also med copays, doctor visits and hard medical equipment can be written off so keep your receipts. Wink
