My mom went into the NH today. Medicaid said they will backpay to the date of her admission. She'll be officially eligible after the property check is done. The NH said they use a certain pharmacy. Medicaid told me I would have to ask the pharmacy if they would accept Medicaid. I didn't understand that. She said that Medicaid only pays for room and board. That means I will have to pay for everything that Medicaid doesn't pay for. What kind of monthly expenses am I looking at now? Will I be getting bills for a couple thousand or couple hundred dollars per month? This is very scary to me. What happens if I can't afford it and can't pay for it?

Priscilla, I am sorry your are not getting much information about this from anyone here, I think all this has us speechless with confusion. As I understand it there are some differences state to state. I know there is the Medicare supplement plans but no one seems to understand them either.

So much is going to depend on the meds she takes. Right now you have her placed. Use this time to catch your breath. Tackle this problem after you do one little thing nice for your self.

Get the trip to a salon for a trim and maybe one extra thing, like you mentioned in your other thread. Good work honey, Catch your breath.

I found out from the lawyer's office and from my friend at DSS that Medicaid should pay for pretty much everything and I will just have manageable expenses like her haircuts, laundry, etc. Then I called the NH back in the afternoon and I asked her specifically if I would have to pay for diapers and she said Medicaid pays for the diapers and they should pay for her scrips along with the Medicare so I should be ok. I should not wind up with big bills each month - it should be very manageable. I am relieved.

And that is exactly what I did this afternoon. I got a haircut which was long overdue!!!! It felt good. Then I walked next door to Cato (ladie's clothing store) and just kinda browsed around. Didn't buy anything but it felt good just to walk around and look.
