My MIL has a secondary insurance plan that picked up the expenses that medicare does not pick up. My question is, do these plans ever cover home care once the patient is out of the nursing home and back home? We are paying 600/wk right now for a live in (the state of CT is paying about 300/wk as well). We're waiting to be approved for medicaid. But it doesn't seem right that more care is not provided under medicare/supplemental insurance. And even medicaid is not going to provide the level of care we are providing now.
Another quesstion, are there private foundations that give grants for home care? There has to be some help out there! (My MIL has AD) We will not consider another NH after the terrible experiences we had with the last one. Thank you all. |

Hi JT,
I would call the insurance agent that sold the policy to your MIL. They would be able to explian the coverare in detail. The Alzheimer's Assoc. dose give grants of ut to $500 I think for in home care. Contact them and they will send you the papers to complete to apply for the grant. Vicki |
