I am looking for the best elder care attorney that I can find in the San Diego area, and would like information from anyone who knows of one, or can tell me the best way to begin my search.
I am currently caring for my mother who has severe memory loss, and need to find out what financial help is available when the time comes to place her in outside care. Any suggestions would be appreciated. DH |

Hi - Our family was at that spot two weeks ago. My Mother had everything in a family trust. My sister and brother talked to quite a few attorneys - that your first call was free. If your like us - we had a bunch of figuring to do first. I took out a tablet and wrote out each income item and took the coresponding paper and numbered it to match. 3 years of income tax papers and the last 3 months of checking - saving accounts. My sister said talking to all these free lawyers prepared them for when they got to the expert - $350.00 per hour. Good luck - I was the emotional support for my Mother - I was the one who took my Dad and did all the horrible things - I had to do - to get help. After I found this site I found out that lots of others had to do the same. It really helped! Hang in there - your in for a real roller coaster ride.

DH,
Try calling The Alzheimer's Association. There is an 800 no. for their Hotlinne. They will be able to send you information and a list of EL Attys in your area. I recommend interviewing several attys., as you will find that each one you meet with will have a slighly different perspective. Try finding the one you are most comfortable with. good luck, hope this helps. [ February 04, 2002: Message edited by: ducky ] |

Dh,
Welcome to the Forum. Calling the Alzheimer's Assoc. in your area is a good idea. Also talking to several before you choose one is advisable. Post again and let us know how you search is going. Vicki |

I suggest that you take a look at the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys at http://www.naela.org. A good elderlaw website is http://www.elderlawanswers.com.
