I'm about to hire a nurse's aide to help with the care of my mom. In terms of managing the nurse's payroll and calculating the payroll taxes, I've decided to go with the option of software that I can use at home. It'll probably be the more cost-effective option vs an accountant or a payroll service.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can recommend some good payroll software products that I should look into? Thanks so much for any input.

Hi lucanur, I have no personal knowledge of this type of software but just for fun I googled "payroll software". I got 8,780,000 site hits in 0.14 secs. WOW! Best of luck with your search.

lucunar,

i am an accountant and quick books is by far the best small business software out there. way more than you need but they do have great payroll support so it may be worth checking out. i don't know what the cost would be.

good luck

Here's a link to an OpenSource bookkeeping software - think it's free... They compare themselves to Quikbooks, etc. I have not used this product but I would certainly try it... Wink

lacunar, in the past, we've used a payroll service to calculate taxes and cut checks (for my mother-in-law's caregiver). But for a few months now, we've been using ElderCarePay software. My husband just found it online, he finds it very easy to use, and we've saved a few hundred dollars versus using the pay service.

Certainly look into it. Hope this helps, and take care.

I am no accountant but by far Quick Books is wonderful. It will not only track the payroll but all the other expenses and if you go to www.lynda.com, for very little money, they will train.

Thanks, everyone, for all the input. Just wanted to let you know that I did look into ElderCarePay and will probably do an annual subscription with them. Certainly cost effective and seemingly simple to use.

I will look into all your suggestions, though, before I make a final decision. Thanks again and hope this thread will help anyone else.
