I am power of attorney for elderly. I was wondering if there are any penalties if I use some of their funds to fund travel to take care of some issues at their home. (Home care, setting up repairs for the home that I cannot do long distance). I am need to be at their home a few times a year, but I cannot afforded it myself.

I work for an elder law attorney, I can forward your question on to him? What state do you live in? In the meantime you may find your answer on our website link removed by moderator or I can send you a free copy of the Patient Advocate Guide which also has useful information. dave@jimschuster.com

Got you the answer! hope this helps

Review the POA to see if it allows compensation.. If not, then presume only out of pocket expenses are allowed. Air fare and rental car would be such expenses and the rule of thumb is "no problem with reimbursement of out of pocket expenses" incurred while performing the duties of agent
